I could not find an email from that address. Can you resend the message from a different address, sometimes email will get held up in by our spam filter. Post in this thread once you send the message and I'll take another look for it.

I have a few questions to Mr Ram guy.

  1. Is the 8 pin connector necessary as aposed to the 6 pin connector?

  2. What benefits do you get from having a 8 pin connector?

  3. Is there any difference between a adaptor (6 - 8 pin) or a straight 8 pin connection (ie is there a loss in power delivered when using an adaptor)?

  4. Can a native 8 pin PCIe connector delivery more power to the card than a native 6 pin connector?

thank you very much. btw i am a big fan of corsair, i have their ram and tx750W. I am asking this for a friend with a HD3870x2.

  1. Only necessary for cards that require it. Even then some will run fine with a 6-pin in the 8-pin slot (2900XT comes to mind)

  2. It's able to deliver more power:
6-pin is capable of delivering up to 75W
8-pin (the addt'l 2 pins are ground) is capable of delivering up to 150W
The PCIe slot is capable of delivering up to 75W

  3. Other than a little added resistance there should not be an issue.

  4. see #2

Not sure I wanna post my email adress here but, I guess I could PM you it if needed to search your "inboxes" at the office to confirm you actually recieved my email :D:

Hi,

I have the opposite problem as most people in this thread. I recently got a HX520, and it came with two 6+2 pin PCI-E power cables. My video card is an EVGA 9800 GTX. Of course the point of the 6+2 pin cable is that you can leave off the two extra pins if you don't need them, but I have the issue where the hole for the clip on the cable in my video card's plug is too small and centered, where the clip on the 6+2 pin cable is too large and off-centered. This means it doesn't fit in the plug at all.

I read the post that was linked previously about taking the clip off, but I really don't want to do anything destructive in case I make a mistake, and I'd like to keep the clip on in case I later get a video card that needs an 8 pin cable. Is it possible for me to get Corsair to send me some regular 6 pin PCI-E power cables?

The standard 6-pin cables may no longer be available, as we have been bundling our PSUs with the 6+2 pin cables for over 8 months now. You should be able to contact your video card manufacturer (EVGA) for adapters so that you do not have to break the pins off of the connectors on the PSU.
