d3h637
I bought an Intel DX38BT motherboard and two TWIN3X20481800C7DFIN memory pairs from newegg as part of a combo deal. When I put together the computer, I found that it would hang if all 4Gb was installed, but would work fine if only 2Gb was installed. It doesn't matter which pair I use, or which channel I populate, the same results. The computer has been stable for > 1hr. with 2Gb, but it will hang before Windows has a chance to boot (or install) with 4Gb installed. It will also hang in the bios setup utility. So, is the TWIN3X20481800C7DFIN compatible with the DX38BT motherbaord? I don't see it on the compatibility list, but why would Newegg package the two together? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 13, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 13, 2008 What do you have the Bios settings set to for CPU and memory? With that CPU and four modules you would have to run the memory at DDR800 or DDR1066 and link the memory and CPU FSB and then over clock the CPU. d3h637
Well, I don't want to have to do anything unusual to make this work. I'll return the memory for memory that is compatible without overclocking. After checking your list, the TWIN3X2048-1800C7DF modules look like a better choice. Not sure why NewEgg was selling the other memory as a combo with the motherboard. I should have checked the compatibility list before I ordered it. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 13, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 13, 2008 Then I would suggest TWIN3X2048-1066C7
d3h637
Thanks for the input. I realized that I failed to mention that I was using the 3Ghz CPU (E6850 Conroe). I know that I don't know much about memory anymore. I long for the days when all you had to worry about was the speed of the memory and the form factor. Anyway, I guess I'm curious why I wouldn't want at least the 1333Mhz front side bus speed to match my CPU.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 14, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 14, 2008 Well, I don't want to have to do anything unusual to make this work. That was why and just plug them in and load setup defaults is all you need to do!
