Crazy solution, maybe it could help to find a correct fix to this problem :

Here is what we have found :

IT'S WORKING !

Amazing !!!

So for those who want to give a try :

1) Go to Bios, put everything Auto (Dram, ...), juste set to Dram freq to 800.

2)Save and exit, and directly after Shutdown yoour computer (Not reset, shutdown with power button)

3) Next reboot, je will have the message asking you if you want to revert back to Default Setting by pressing F2. Press F2.

Tadaaaaa => No more memory problem !!!!!! Amazing !

BUT : ALL your setting are reset, (No more raid 0, ...), and if you go back to your bios and do a Save and exit (even without doing a change in it), your memory got the problem again !

If after that they sey it's not a Bios problem !

First remark after running memTest 2.0 after the trick : The FSB freq = 333

After saving once in the bios memtest found the FSB freq set to 334 !

....

Conclusion : The "F2" to reset your settings seems to set good default values. But as soon as you go via the bios the "Save and exit" do corrupt something !

Please make sure that you have the latest bios and load setup defaults and then set the memory Voltage to 2.1 Volts then set the timings manually to the tested settings for the specific module you have, and test the modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org to be sure one is not failing. If you still get errors, please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! However, if you get errors with both modules that would suggest some other problem and I would test them in another system or MB to be sure. In addition, with some MB's (Mostly ASUS) you have to disable legacy USB in the bios when running any memory test.

Hello,

Have you read the thread on asus board ?

We are a bunch of people that have tried all possible manual settings for the ram. They are simply NOT working.

The ram itself doesn't have a problem :

I have exchange them twice !

Have test the ram on another Motherboard : All fine, not error.

So it would be nice to warn the user not to buy Corsair Ram with this motherboard if they plan to use bios version > 3.xx

Only 3 possibilities if you still want to keep the motherboard :

- "Roll back" to bios before 3.xx (not possible for me because the CPU E8xxx are only supported by bios >= 5.xx)

- Use the trick here before, but your are stuck using all default bios parameters. Working very good. (But no Raid 0, no overclocking possible, ...)

- Use Ram from another constructor : What I did, and no more problem ...

Until a debugged bios

That is not realistic, there is no way ASUS or any one else can make a BIOS be unstable with one specific make of memory and not another. I am sorry but that is ridiculous.

What BIOS version are you using? And what is the CPU?

Hello,

As you say it seems unrealistic. If I was alone, I won't say it, but here, you just have to type in google "P5E corsair", and you will see the results.

I used the latest bios and an intel E8200 cpu (that needs a recent bios version).

I have been in contact with a technical asus guy, after a couple of mail exchanges, he decided to raise a "technical ticket to the bios dev." because it's not normal.

Other person with the same problem received this type of asus support :

"

Dear sir.

According to JEDEC spec, you memory is out of spec. Any compatibility problem is normal.

JEDEC: 800MHz 5-5-5-15@1.8V

"

And I will add this remarks from someone :

"it looks like that (almost) all RAM with the CHIP "Micron D9GMH" have big problems with new bios versions...(corsair, a - data, super talent, ......)"

So :

- Since I have change my corsaire memory stick, all my problems are gone ! ==> not an hardware problem (other than memory)

- I have tried those memory stick on another computer without any problem ! ==> not an memory problem

- It seems that with the asus bios < 2.01, the corsair ram are ok, but I cannot use them because those bios doesn't supprt E8xxx intel CPU. ==> Depending of the bios version the ram are working or not

For me it's clear : It is a Bios bug.

ps : Got a friend that did buy the same motherboard with corsair ram. He got exactly the same "compatibility" problem, he was forced to exchange the ram for another constructor.

Conclusion : I have 4G of ram at side waiting for a bios update ...

BUT it could be good to warned us that with the P5E/Maximus Asus board, the Corsair ram have problem with recent bios (ver > 2.01) !

Well actually JEDEC does not set the timings that is defined by the IC maker. In other words the timings for one module might be Cas 6-6-6-18 while one might be Cas 5-5-5-18 and another be 5-5-5-15. That does indeed suggest a BIOS BUG and your comment that it was not compatible with our modules is not correct; any module make using the same IC would have the same problem was my point. However, if you search for that MB you will see hundreds of users having problems with the lower end MB's from ASUS where the Deluxe and Premium versions seem to work properly. Normally we do not not purchase the lower end MB's but I have asked to get this MB and a few other variants to do some testing but again the fact you can change the CPU and use another BIOS version would suggest it is not memory problem.

Tx you for your concerned here.

But you consider a MB of 199€ (P5E) or 239€(Asus Maximus Formula) low end ? (They share the same problem).

Even Asus P5K Premium WiFi-AP is cheaper : 169.00 €

Until now, they were not that much complains against this problem because only a few E8xxx cpu have reach the market. But as it's growing, we can see more and more report on the asus forum from people sharing the same problem and try to find a solution to it.

I'm not either saying that corsair Dram are crappy, it's clearly linked here to crappy bios.

If I choose Asus MB and Corsair RAM for my new computer was because I had good past experiences with both products (very good quality), and you should understand here that it's becoming quite stressful for us when if I resume :

- Asus say : "Jdec blablabla, not our fault, take other memory stick it will work, ..."

- And memory maker saying : "Problem not coming from memory"

(Even if now, we know where is located the problem)

No mater what, tx you for the answers and support, far beter than asus side.

A: It is not about the cost, what I meant was we normally only buy the Deluxe or Premium versions unless the MB is one that was requested from our configurator.

Bottom line if the modules will work in that MB with a different CPU or in another system the modules are not to blame. We are sorry that you had a problem, but ultimately the solution has to come from ASUS. Sorry!
