ACIDtek
Hi there guys, two months ago i bought a new pc with a pair of Dominator CM2X1024-8500C5D (unmatched) and one day after a power surge here in my place, i couldn't get the pc to start again. I guessed the memories were damaged. So i grabbed an old DDR2 667 and my PC started again. But yet, there were times when the Dominators would work! other times don't.. but then, they really stopped working. I replaced my "supposed" damaged memories for newer equal ones, and now i'm having problems starting my pc with the new memories. I have an ASUS P5K Deluxe WIFI-AP and two CM2X1024-8500C5D 1066Mhz DDR2 Sticks. EDIT: Forgot to add that my BIOS is updated to it's latest version, 0705. Either i use both or one stick only on any slot my system doesn't start at all, the motherboard emits continous beeps warning that something is wrong, and i got a black screen on my monitor. Any suggestions? Does anyone know if this particular motherboard has issues with these Dominators, or have seen similar problems? i hope there's a solution for my situation. My pc works fine with the old 667 stick though, i really want to dig this matter! Thank you!
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 7, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 7, 2008 Please make sure that you have the latest Bios version and then load setup/optimized defaults and set the Dim Voltage to 2.1 volts (+.3 Volts W/Giga-Byte) and then set the timings manually to the tested settings for the specific module you have, or if you have Value Select "BY SPD" and then test the module/'s one at a time with http://www.memtest.org! If you still get errors, please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! However, if you get errors with both modules that would suggest some other problem and I would test them in another system or MB to be sure. In addition, with some MB's (Mostly ASUS) you have to disable legacy USB in the bios when running any memory test.
ACIDtek
Well, i actually can't use memtest because my PC doesn't start at all with the Dominators. I turn it on and about 2 or 3 seconds later the bios on the motherboard emits continous *BEEPS* warning that something is wrong. When i put the older 667 my pc works fine. But i can't believe that the problems are the Dominators, as these are new sets. Remembering that when i bought the PC the dominators were working fine till the powersurge, when they stopped working so i replaced them for a new set of sticks that are equal. Now (with BIOS updated to latest version even) and a new set of Dominators, my pc won't start also! But with an old 667 stick it does. Mysterious eh? EDIT: Well, it's really difficult to find anyone here in my town with an motherboard which can run sticks like these (1066mhz) but i'am reallywilling to try and dig this. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 8, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 8, 2008 Test the modules one set at a time, and make sure one is not failing then if they all work set the memory frequency at DDR800 and set the memory Voltage to 2.1 Volts and set the NB/MCH Voltage to +.05 volts and then exit the BIOS saving changes and let it try to boot from a floppy or CD and turn it off and then add the other two modules and see if it will post. If it will post then go to BIOS setup and load setup defaults and set the Voltage and settings I just gave you and see if it will pass http://www.memtest.org. But you may have to disable legacy USB when running a memory test on that MB.
