mageej
I'm on my 2nd set of TWIN2X2048-6400C4PRO LED 2X1gb sticks. The first set was RMA'd late '07. With that said, I overclocked my FSB to get my E6600 to 3ghz. That wasn't easy. I started to get BSOD's every 2 to 3 reboots! I upped the vcore to 1.4, RAM voltage is at 2.1 and other tweaked settings. Whenever I tried to play STALKER, it always crashed or froze, or CTD. Sometimes my system would just freeze. I recently used MEMTEST 3.3 to test each stick in different slots. I'm getting errors on 1 stick in test 6. I'm thinking of RMAing these, but getting Dominators in the mean time. Right now I have taken the two sticks out and put in an "emergency" stick of Corsair 667, which has no problems. Any help would be great.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 7, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 7, 2008 If one module fails and one passes then lets get them both replaced! Please use the On Line RMA Request Form and we will be happy to replace them.
mageej
Ram Guy, here's an update. I just got home and turned my computer on which has the alternate 667 stick, and on the first boot I got another page fault! The TWIN2X sticks are sitting on my desk. Maybe the overclock has something to do with the BSOD's? What else should I look for? Maybe redo my system? I very recently bought a usb hub and have some peripherals plugged in. It could be the usb hub.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 7, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 7, 2008 Please make sure that you have the latest BIOS for your motherboard and then load optimized defaults and set the Memory Voltage to 2.1 volts and then set the timings to 4-4-4-12 (CAS-tRCD-tRP-tRAS) and then test the modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org (version 1.70)! Please allow memtest to run 2-3 passes on each module. If you still get errors, we will be happy to replace them! However, if you get errors with both modules that would suggest some other problem and I would test them in another system or MB to be sure. Make sure when running memtest you have “Legacy USB Support” disabled in the BIOS. When testing the memory, always run the CPU at the default settings to make sure that your overclock settings are not causing the errors.
mageej
I'll try that, thanks. Will let you know soon.
mageej
Ok, I tested each individualy at stock settings for the mobo, and memory at 4-4-4-12. I also switched to the "B" memory slots on the mobo. In individual tests with 2 passes each, no errors. When tested in pairs in both sets of slots, errors are present. I don't get it. I built this whole system new in June of last year. Do I need to RMA? A new board perhaps? By the way, here's some more info on my system. I have 4 hard drives. One is my main drive where I get the BSOD's; 2 is Flight Simulator 2004 on XP64bit only; 3 is Flight Sim X on XP32bit only; and 4 is scenery and mesh files for the 2 flightsim drives. I have no BSOD's with 2-4. My main drive might be corrupted? Thanks for your reply.
Xtreeme
If the ram works individually it should be ok. So your dual booting? Other OS gives no errors but one does? That would make me think your OS is corrupt.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 8, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 8, 2008 Most hard drive manufactures provide diagnostic software to test the integrity of the drive, you may want to check your manufacturers website to see if this is available to check the drive itself. However, if both modules pass individually and they fail together there may be an issue with either a DIMM slot on the board or the memory controller. What type of motherboard do you have? You may want to test in a different motherboard to be sure.
mageej
My mobo is the ASUS P5N32E-SLI Plus. I tested each stick individually in all 4 slots and that came up with no errors. I have 2 accounts on my main drive with the problems. On my account, BSOD's, on the other account, no problems. Now on my account, It won't boot anymore, it just blue screens every time! I have the Western Digital Diagnostic utility on my main drive, but I can't boot to use it. There's obviously something I've installed that has gone screwy. And yes, I might have to start over on this drive.
mageej
I've booted into the other account and I'm running Western Digital Extended Diagnostics now. Results in a bit.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 8, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 8, 2008 You should be using http://www.memtest.org to test the memory.
mageej
I did test with Memtest. I was checking the drive itself for errors. The WD test came up good.
Xtreeme
disk tools just checks the platters for errors it does no tests on the os files. You need to check the os for corruption. OR possibly run a repair from xp cd. Backup all your data you need of the drive with BSODs first. Just like this link http://209.85.207.104/search?q=cache:HqPH7lvO324J:www.experts-exchange.com/OS/Miscellaneous/Q_20459549.html+check+for+corrupted+os+files+in+xp&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=us 1. Boot the computer using the XP CD. check your system documentation for steps to access the BIOS and change the boot order. 2. When you see the "Welcome To Setup" screen, press Enter, Accept the license agreement 3. Select the XP installation you want to repair Setup should now copy the necessary files to the hard drive and reboot If this works you will need to reapply updates or service packs applied since initial Windows XP installation. If this does not work or REPAIR is not listed we can try further steps to restore your system. If you have any important files on the corrupt os back them up first just in case. Though it shouldnt cause any harm you never know- it is a pc after all.
mageej
I've done an XP repair and it never came out the way I wanted. It left the old folders and created new ones. An example is that you get a clean new start menu, but all of the installed programs are hidden and the icons are gone. It's like 2 copies of XP on the same system. I would just start clean. Xtreeme
however you wanna go about it. But I really think the os files are the problem if one OS is fine other isnt and the drives are healthy. Not much else it can be! In fact nothing else I can think of. good luck-let us know how it turns out.:):
mageej
Now I'm getting BSOD's on the other account. It will boot most of the time, but sometimes after it boots, I get page faults and IRQL less than equal blue screens. I'm going to start fresh, possibly with the 2gb of TWIN2X and see how that goes.
