bsdude010
Hello, I would like to upgrade my memory from 1gb to 2gb or more. I currently have CORSAIR XMS 1GB (2 x 512MB, TWINX1024-3200C2PT). I only have 3 slots for memory total on my MoBo. Can I add a stick of 1gb XMS to make 2gb total? Or must I get rid of what I have now and buy 2 sticks of 2gb. Thank you very very much. The problem is with your motherboard and chipset. If you fill all three DIMM slots on your motherboard, the memory would be forced to run at only PC1600 speed (100MHz, or DDR200) in order to run reliably due to the bugs in the VIA chipset on that motherboard. And not only that, but all three memory modules should exactly match each other in every minute detail just to even run as stably as possible. Mixing 512MB and 1GB sticks in the same system, especially an AMD Athlon 64 type platform, is asking for trouble because your existing 512MB sticks are double-sided, and all 1GB sticks of DDR memory are also double-sided resulting in mixed IC densities which might destabilize your system. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 6, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 6, 2008 I agree I would replace what you have now with one set of Twinx2048-3200C2 modules for best performance.
