Asus Formula Maximus SE and CM2X1024-8500C5D Dominator

Hi,

I built my present rig using the asus mb and the Corsair recommended ram. Initially all went well, and as I was using Vista Ult 64 bit os, I decided to increase the ram to 4096Mb so I bought another pair of 8500C5D sticks. After fitting the extra ram the trouble started, bsd with varying messages, total freeze, and sometimes after normal shut down the bios would revert to default settings. Tested everything that I could, carried out memtest on each stick individually - no faults. Finally I put it back together with only two sticks of ram and it works perfectly. On closer inspection of the ram I found that they are all the same spec. except that the first pair I bought are marked 2.15v ver2.3, but the second pair have 2.20v ver1.3 on them. I have tried putting all four sticks back in and setting the timings manually, and varied the dram voltage between 2.10 and 2.25, freq. 800, 887, and 1066 but there is no way that it will work using the four sticks of ram. So my question is are the two sets of ram compatible with each other. sounds strange but if I put either pair in, set the timings to auto, everything works perfectly. While I am quite happy to run with just the two sticks in at the moment I would very much appreciate any comments or suggestions that anyone might have that will through light on the problem. Thanks to all.

Yes I have tried that but with no success. The one thing that still bothers me is the marking on the actual ram, does 2.15v on one and 2.20v on the other pair mean that the optimum dram voltage is 2.15 on one pair and 2.20 on the other? I dont suppose that .05v makes a lot of difference, but could it in your view have any effect. Many thanks for your reply and I would be very interested to hear further from you.
