Problem with Asus-CROSSHAIR and 1066 corsair memory

Hi. I did the memory configurator and it suggested I get the CORSAIR Dominator DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) TWIN2X2048-8500C5D to use with my ASUS CROSSHAIR mobo. I did.

The system will not boot very stable with this ram though. Im lucky to make it into the BIOS in fact.

When I did manage to get into the BIOS, in an attempt to set the ram up manually, I couldnt find where to change the frequency of the ram so it expects 1066 instead of 800. Is this the correct procedure to get it to read it correctly?

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

first set all the mem timings to auto for first boot attempt. Also make SURE the ram volts is set to what the memstick asks for. THese WONT run undervolted and default on mobos is 1.8 or 1.95 volts. Too low for these high end sticks. Check what the stick says volts should be and set it manually in the bios. Till you do that you will crash.

Ok. I adjusted the DDR2 voltage and the ram is more stable now. However, in the BIOS, it still doesnt recognize it as 1066. It reads it as 800mhz 5-5-5-15. The rest is correct, but the 800 is wrong and I cant find where to change that option in the bios for my mobo. Any ideas on that part?

I had the same problem with an Asus M2n32 WS Pro motherboard (see thread below). I replaced the power supply and tried 800 mhz memory sticks. When I used the 800mhz memory sticks, it worked but was flakey. Eventually, I replaced the motherboard. The flakey motherboard would not recognise the 1066mhz sticks, it showed them as 800mhz sticks. The replacement motherboard booted up fine, recognized the 1066mhz sticks, and has now worked for weeks with no problems.
