abak
Hi All: Upgrading My OS TO vista Makes it possible to Install The Maximum amount of RAM which is (according to the manufacturer) 8GB. Knowimg that my motherboard is MSI K9N SLI PLATINUM. Is That advisable? And if so are 2 kits of (TWIN2X4096-6400C5) the ideal choice for maximum Stability As the (Memory cofigurator) Suggests? Thanks
Wired
WHY do you want 8 GB? Depending on what you use your system for, it may be better to get ONE Twin2X4096 pack instead of 2.

Thanks Unfortunately, there is currently no motherboard which can run four sticks of any current 2GB modules (from any manufacturer) without running into speed and/or stability issues. And even if you do get both kits of TWIN2X4096 kits which exactly match each other (not only in part number, but also revision number and lot number), there is an excellent chance that the two kits won't work together properly or at all on your motherboard. Does that include the amd 770 chipset just released? I have one, it has seperate DRAM strength settings even. I thought that was to help get around this 4 dimm issue. Hopefully someone with 4 sticks and this board will test. I was told 4x800mhz should be no issue on it but 1066 and higher dunno. Assuming speed would have to drop like older chipsets would mean 2x1066 or 4x800mhz. Would have to get someone to test it to be sure. But back to OP board, being last gen. if you will Im sure youll face some kind of issue with 4 dimms.
abak
Hi All Again: A certain manufacture claimed that a huge boost in performance is expected if I increase the RAM memory to 8GB. And they even named a specific model claiming that things will go smoothly!!!! But I know that 8GB in most cases means trouble…. And that what you all agreed on! My question now is: is it better to install 2 modules of 2GB each or 4 modules of 1GB each with my MSI K9N SLI PLATINUM? Many Thanks....
Garvin
If you want 4 gigs, two of 2 gigs each is better than four of 1 gig each.
