ManCJocke
Hi When im starting up my computer, my Corsair HX 520 sounds strange for a long time, not only on the startup, it can last for a up to a half hour. It´s not one sound, its like klick-klick-klick-klick all the time, should i return this powersupply or is this ok? Hope to get a quick reply. I hope that you understand what i wrote, my english is not too good, sorry. Thanks, Jocke
NickSt
you could add you system configuration data in your profile. Just in case. And skim through this part of the forum, Power Supplies, I think there were several such or similar issues. Which makes me feel a lil bit "strange" taking into account that I'm going to purchase the HX520...
EliteKiller
ManCJocke, use a non-conductive item to stop the fan from spinning to see if the noise stops. If so try loosening the 4 fan screws a little bit. Which makes me feel a lil bit "strange" taking into account that I'm going to purchase the HX520... No matter what product you own there will be those that experience issues and failures that require an RMA. It's not a good idea to judge purchasing decisions based solely on forum feedback alone, especially when a large percentage of happy owners never take the time to post their comments. :whip: The HX520 in my rig has been running flawlessly since day 1. If it ever fails at least I know I'm backed by some of the best support in the industry. :nodding:

If so try loosening the 4 fan screws a little bit. Just don't stop it for too long so that the fan motor doesn't burn out. No matter what product you own there will be those that experience issues and failures that require an RMA. But since I'm neither in the US, nor in Western Europe I won't be able to RMA it directly to Corsair (well, that would cost me a fortune I guess), but will have to have business with my local shop service dept. instead, which is not my greatest anticipation. Tomsen
Hi i bought my Corsair HX520W a week ago and i have the same problem. The Fan is klicking for a few minutes and then the klick-klick noise is dissapearing. :(: When the computer is running the noise never comeback. Only when the power supply is getting cold i think, cause if i start the pc then, the klick-klick noise is back again. Should i try to loosening the 4 fan screws a little bit? But i wont risk by guarantee. Or should i bring the power supply to the shop? EDIT: To loosening one of the 4 fan screws a little bit solved the klick-klick problem! Thx EliteKiller for the Tip!

Tomsen
A guy in an another Forum had the same problem like us. Klick-klick-noise on startup. He fixed the problem with a screwdriver too (i gave him the tip!). ;): Hes glad that he doesnt have to change the PSU anymore. :D: So i hope if someone has the same strange noise on startup like us, he can fix it with loosening some of the 4 Fan screws too. ;):
NickSt
I'd personally be glad to know what is the cause for the problem, aside from just how to solve it.
EliteKiller
I'd personally be glad to know what is the cause for the problem, aside from just how to solve it. Cause: (4) external fan screws slightly overtightened from the factory.
NickSt
Don't they have each unit tested at the factory?
Xtreeme
yes, but the fans casing will flex if over tightened. Case fans are same way. Over time, like shipping and sitting on shelf the slightly flexed case -bends more due to bit too much tension. This changes the shape of fan case, and you get noise. Loosen it, it will flex back. This means it prob. made no noise during testing, but later did as the fan case was distorted more over time with too much tension applied. Eltonio
I have the same noise as MancJocke, i tried to loosening the screws, but it don´t solved my problem. When i was making pressure over one of the screws, the click noise became weaker, but i continued hearing the noise, but i can´t do pressure all the time  . I stopped the fan with a piece of soft-plastic(i was triying to find the source of the noise), the fan started to do a strange electric noise, when i removed the piece of plastic blocking the fan, the fan started to spin a few seconds later, doing the same sound as before i stopped it. Is this fan faulty? Also i find some "buzzing" noise tha becomes from the power supply, but it only happens when i conect it to the Asus P5k-e wifi motherboard. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 11, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 11, 2008 Also i find some "buzzing" noise tha becomes from the power supply, but it only happens when i conect it to the Asus P5k-e wifi motherboard. The buzzing may be coming from the board itself if it only happens when used in one particular system. If the fan is clicking and loosening the screws does not help then we can have it replaced for you if you like. Please use the On Line RMA Request Form and we will be happy to replace it.
