Soupdragon71
I am lookng to increase my memory to 4GB as I am now using a 64 bit Windows platform. I already have 2x1GB Dominator PC6400. What I want to know is; is it better to use 4x1GB sticks or 2x2GB sticks as I notice the 2GB sticks seem to have higher latencies? thanks
bigbuck08
You will have less problems with 2x2GB. Most likely if you get another 2x1GB you would have to drop the speed to DDR667. I went from having (2) TWIN2X2048-6400C3DF, after burning them up for running them at the rated speeds of two modules , to having (1) TWIN2X4096-C5DHX. I got them running 4-3-4-9 at DDR850 @ 1.85v and I do not notice a difference in normal Vista use or gaming. If you want to overlcok at all I would highly suggest going with 2x2GB. Xtreeme
higher density ram chips usually run slower. Going by that the 2x2gb is more mature IC and should be able to run faster in general that is. I think 2x1gb is still the best out right now for oclocking. This was the case atleast, unless the 2gb ones have gotten better. Single stick vs dual isnt much diff in performance at rated speed. When going for high speed though, density is always a issue to consider.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 5, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 5, 2008 In many cases 2 modules will run or perform better than 4 modules even when running a bit slower. Because of loading on the memory controller when you have more than two modules installed.
