Hi,

I recently had an issue with my computer (tuesday 29th jan), one day it was working fine, then next it seemed to not want to load windows. I could get it to load eventually, but within about 10 mins it would crash again with a BSOD "STOP: 0x0000000A (0xC002000,0x000000FF,0x00000000,0x8239E036)". I read about this same thing happening and heard it could be ram related, tried to boot my pc to get memtest on it in the few mins i had to do so, but instead it never got past the post screen, saying "RAM R/W error. Press F1 to continue."

As an aside, I bought the C4 version rather than C5, hoping for a little extra speed, but the RAM would never take it, crashing before the post screen had finished doing its business. I reverted to C5 (i wasn't too fussed-only a couple of quid extra for C4), and they seemed to work ok.

I've tried taking one stick out, leaving the other in. The first stick loaded ok first time round, then windows crashed to a BSOD again, not wanting to load. The second stick also loaded, and has worked fine for about an hour now, not a hiccup to be seen (except being a little more sluggish at times).

For possible reasons - my power supply should manage to take what i've got in the pc, i've got 5 cooling fans in the case, 2 for taking heat off the CPU. Both of my hard disks seem to be fine - diskeeper says they're in good nick.

Is this worthy of getting an RMA? How would i sort the problem with it running in CL5 rather than CL4 timings once i get the problem sorted?

Thanks,

Miles

For the 6400C4 modules I would recommend that you do the following. Please make sure that you have the latest BIOS for your motherboard and then load optimized defaults and set the Memory Voltage to 2.1 volts and then set the timings to 4-4-4-12 (CAS-tRCD-tRP-tRAS) and then test the modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org! Please allow memtest to run 2-3 passes on each module. If you still get errors, we will be happy to replace them! However, if you get errors with both modules that would suggest some other problem and I would test them in another system or MB to be sure.

i have run memtest86 v1.70, did four efforts (did not change memory voltages/timings for this):

1: both sticks. hung on the first pass (Pass at 12%, test at 15%, test #4). Did not produce any errors, though.

2: the stick that worked ok before (stick a). did 4 passes, no errors.

3: the stick that didnt work before (stick b). Did not get past post screen. tried 2 times. Post screen then showed the message "warning!!! the previous performance of overclocking is failed, and the system is restored to the defaults setting, Press any key to enter setup......". no amount of pressing keys entered setup.

4: replaced with stick a: did 3 passes, no errors. loaded up windows afterwards fine.

The two serial numbers on the sticks are 583577 & 583578 followed by 0650556-4. The one that doesn't seem to like being used is 583577. Is this RMA time now?

Finally, tried changing the timings, seems to be working fine now, thanks for that!

If you did not set the tested settings and Voltage then no it just means they will not pass at default SPD settings and thats not how they are tested. Please set the tested settings manually and test them, one at a time. If you have more than tow modules installed you may need to set the memory frequency at DDR667 and increase the NB/MCH Voltage as well. In addition, with some MB's (Mostly ASUS) you have to disable legacy USB in the bios when running any memory test.

I'll test them both again with the new settings tomorrow morning (its coming up to 1am here), though the strange thing is that they have worked fine for so long (about 6-7 months now), then one has decided to play up.

I only have the two corsair sticks in question. I did test them one at a time, though the one stick would not even let me get to the memory test, nor the bios screen to set the voltages/timings. Again, not tried this with the new settings. Should i need to increase the voltage any further with just two modules? Surely i shouldn't need to reduce the frequency, since the reason i bought those ones was to make use of the high frequency they could be run at!

thanks again,
