IBAzzkckr
Way back in September, when I was upgrading, I walked into my computer supply store and purchased a bunch of supplies to the purpose of upgrading. One of the things upgrading was the ram. After considerable research, I keyed in on the Corsair Dominator (TWIN2X2048-6400C4D). So this is what I asked for and was told by the salesman that it would have to be ordered since they had none in stock. I said fine and waited about 4 days before I got the call that it had come in. I went down to the store and recieved this (TWIN2X2048-6400C4DHX). I looked at the silver color of the ram and thought that doesn't look like the black dominator that I asked for and doesn't say dominator on it either. But then I looked at the receipt and it clearly stated that it was the dominator series. So I figured that was that. Last night, I was surfing through various sites and found this (TWIN2X2048-6400C4DHX). Now back in September, I paid $239.95 for 2 sticks in all I bought 4 sticks for a total of $508 with tax. Now I completely understand that ram prices are so volatile and that any given Sunday it could go either way. But even this seemed fishy. So I did some digging and found the Corsair data sheets on both the XMS2 and the Dominator series and ultimately made the call to Corsair this morning. I spoke with a tech rep and read the "TWIN2X2048-6400C4DHX" from the ram I have to which he stated that it wasn't in fact the Dominator ram. Furthermore, he explained to me that the dominator ram was all black and said Dominator on it as well. When I asked him what the difference was between the two he said that the dominator had a more advanced chipset in it. I contacted the store from where I purchased it and was told to bring the ram in with my receipt. No problem. I went down there and was told that it was definitely the dominator ram and that they weren't pulling a fast one. The manager assured me that the "tech" I spoke to was probably a "Tier one" and that I should've asked to speak with someone higher up that knew what he was talking about. To which I stated that I would call and do that exactly. He also gave me the number of his regional manager and said that his manager would back him up about the ram that it is the dominator ram and that Corsair is now shipping these as the "new dominator". Now I'm not so sure who is on the up and up, but I'm not about to let this go until I'm completely sure that what I've got is the real deal.
Wired
http://www.asktheramguy.com/forums/showpost.php?p=319824The 6400C4D Dominator modules have been discontinued, and have been relabeled as 6400C4DHX. The only difference is the DHX version is silver, and does not have an EPP profile for SLI-Ready enabled motherboards. Performance and compatibility is the same. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 31, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 31, 2008 IBAzzkckr I am sorry for the confusion but I think you might be reading more into this, XM2S-6400C4D and XM2S-6400C4DHX are indeed the same with the exceptions stated above/bellow. This was a marketing change because some were assuming they would get a modules based on Micron so we stopped production and changed the name so there was no miss understanding. But it seems it has caused some confusion.

Thanks for the response(s), what's really confusing to me is why they (reseller) would advertise it as Dominator when in point of fact it is not the Dominator rather its replacement. However, I digress I'm just happy I got what I paid for.:):
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 1, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 1, 2008 You would have to take that up with the reseller, but if you have any trouble with the memory let us know!
