Suitable power supply

That really depends on your computer chassis/case. If it will accept a standard size ATX psu then it should fit.

Wouldn't it also depend on whether his motherboard is compatible as well? From the VX550 specs:

"ATX12V v2.2 standard and is backwards compatible with ATX12V 2.01"

I tried to look that motherboard up on the Asus web site. I could not find it.

You have an OEM system, correct? If so, you would need to check with your computer manufacturer to see if they have a proprietary power supply or not. If not, then you would need to find out if, like smithkt said, it is ATX12V 2.01 or higher.

I did a brief search on the web for both the motherboard and power supply. I could not find anything concrete on either, other than it appears to be a Packard Bell system.

The most useful post I found was this:

http://forums.techguy.org/4117017-post10.html

The user in that post was able to swap his PSU out with an ATX 2.0 compatible PSU without a problem. No guarantees, but it does strongly suggest the VX550 will work in this system.

The Asus Lima is a socket 775 mobo which does not appear to have any proprietary power connections, so it should support any Corsair psu.
