travellingman
I've got a 2GB flash padlock drive which I've been using for about a week. Generally, I love it. On Windows XP Pro, I run various portable apps off it like Firefox Portable, OpenOffice Portable, etc. Every once in awhile, while it's doing something (for example, opening OpenOffice Portable), it will crash and can't continue doing what it's supposed to be doing. When this happens, I simply take out the drive, put it back in, and try to perform the task again, and it works fine. I store about 1.5GB on the drive and I can live with this minor annoyance once in awhile...as long as it stays this way: a minor annoyance. Someone please tell me that it's natural for this to happen once in awhile (it doesn't happen every time) and that it won't get worse. I'm heading out of the country soon and I don't have time to replace this drive....
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 30, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 30, 2008 Are you using this with a note book? If so then I would try using it through an externally powered USB HUB for a few days and see if it still happens. On e of the most common problems with Note Books is they will sometimes limit the power to USB Ports and cause this symptom.
travellingman
Negative. Though for whatever reason it seems to happen more often with my parents Dell tower than with my own custom tower job. It has happened on both, and most of the time it doesn't happen at all, but when it does happen it scares me slightly. This is not a problem I have ever had with other USB flash drives on the same machines. Do the Flash Padlock drives require more power than an average flash drive? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 30, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 30, 2008 Dell's have been notorious for that especially when using the front port and I have seen it happen with the front ports on other systems. Can you try what I suggested with an externally powered USB HUB and I would connect it to the port on the back of the system.
travellingman
Well, in the case of the Dell, it was indeed the front ports. In the case of my custom job, it was the rear. I don't have an externally powered USB hub readily available....and frankly, I'm hoping to use the Flash Padlock while traveling so I can't be too picky and choosy about which brand of machine and port I'm going to be plugging it into. Do the Flash Padlock drives require more power than an average flash drive? The problems I've described have occurred the most with the Dell front ports, but there are other (non-Flash Padlock, non-Corsair) flash drives that I've used on those Dell ports and others that have not had any problem. Like I said in the beginning, if this is a problem doesn't progress past the minor annoyance that it already is, it will be tolerable.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 31, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 31, 2008 I understand and we will be happy to replace it if you want to try that.
