sc4venger
Hello, I am having issues getting my system stable.. please can someone help me configure my bios ? The system keep locking up at random times. CoreTemp is showing all the cores at around 37-39 C. All the parts are brand new! I am so dissappointed. I am reading alot of stuff saying that this board might undervolt the CPU, overvolt the RAM, etc, etc. Anyone has a rig like this one that can help? PLEASE. -fred
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 29, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 29, 2008 Please make sure that you have the latest Bios version and then load setup/optimized defaults and set the Dim Voltage to 2.1 volts (+.3 Volts W/Giga-Byte) and then set the timings manually to the tested settings for the specific module you have, and then test the module/'s one at a time with http://www.memtest.org! If you still get errors, please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! However, if you get errors with both modules that would suggest some other problem and I would test them in another system or MB to be sure. In addition, with some MB's (Mostly ASUS) you have to disable legacy USB in the bios when running any memory test.

sc4venger
I have spent all night trying to make my system stable and it still crashes. I have to set the memory to 800 unlinked in the bios for windows to not freeze. I have manually set the timing and everything, I have ran memtest for 30 minutes and it didn't pop errors, I just left the system run memtest before I went to work, I will know at lunch time how it did. Report: memtest for 30 minutes @ 1066mhz: OK prime95 (fpu stress, no ram): OK prime95 (blending, lots of ram): always crash Sometimes the system hangs even when loading memtest86, either at 800 or 1066. Here is whats written on the ram: 5-5-5-15 2.2v rev 1.3 What could I try to fix this ****? thanks -fred
sc4venger
Report of this morning's test -Memory clocked to 1066 memtest froze after 1 hour, 2 passes, 712 errors I will clock the memory to 800 and start memtest before going to work this afternoon. I will post the results.
sc4venger
Does Ram Guy or any other guru would need more information about my tests? This situation sounds like RMA to me.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 30, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 30, 2008 Well no not really, it sounds like there is some other issue, if I understand what you are posting. Getting basically the same results with both modules?? And what do you have the CPU and memory settings set to in the BIOS and did you disable legacy USB when you ran http://www.memtest.org? Also there have been a few reporting problems with this MB and that CPU did you see if there is a newer BIOS for that MB?
sc4venger
Well no not really, it sounds like there is some other issue, if I understand what you are posting. Getting basically the same results with both modules?? Thank god you are there! I will test each stick one at a time tonight, I did all the tests with both modules. And what do you have the CPU and memory settings set to in the BIOS and did you disable legacy USB when you ran http://www.memtest.org? FBS 1066, RAM 1066, 5-5-5-15-2T 2.195v (cannot set to 2.200 due to increment), unlinked, most of the settings are auto, VCORE at 1.325, I tried to set NB voltage from 1.3 to 1.4 without any changes in stability. Yes I have Legacy USB support disabled before doing all the tests. Also there have been a few reporting problems with this MB and that CPU did you see if there is a newer BIOS for that MB? Yes I have ready alot of posts of people having stability issues, I am running the latest bios already (0703), not sure if there is a beta one hidden somewhere on asus website, can't find any beta. I will update this thread tonight when I get back home, I will post the memtest result of both modules running at 800mhz for 4 hours. Thanks for the help
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 30, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 30, 2008 No Problem and yes please let me know how you make out! And I have no problem in getting them replaced, but I would suggest a bit more testing first, please use the On Line RMA Request Form and we will be happy to replace them. sc4venger
Yes, I will let you know when I have my other tests done. Something is weird though, in the manual : http://www.corsair.com/_datasheets/TWIN2X2048-8500C5D.pdf it says 2.1v but on the sticker that I have on my modules it says 2.2v. -fred
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 30, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 30, 2008 Ver or Rev 1.X would be 2.2 Volts and Rev/Ver 2.X would be 2.1 Volts.

sc4venger
Update Just came back from work and memtest was still running after 7 hours, no errors. (800mhz) I will now try one module at a time at both 800 and 1066. I will let you know the results. -fred
sc4venger
Quick update, Module #1 in slot A1 ran the whole night (9 hours) at 1066mhz without any errors. Module #2 is now in slot A1, will let you know if it fails. Ram Guy, if both modules run perfectly at 1066mhz when theres only one stick in the comp, what would this means? where would the problem be located? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 31, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 31, 2008 Probably with this MB I would just run it at DDR800 and wait for the BIOS to mature a bit more.
sc4venger
Well, each modules seems to work fine if used only one at a time. I have tested both at 1066mhz and no errors, but prime95 still freeze. I got a bit more stability when putting the ram modules in slots A2 and B2, I have read somewhere that some Asus P5* boards were configured to use 2T modules in thoses slots. So, when using both modules in dual (A2 and B2 slots) memtest has ran for a couple hours with no errors. Even when running the ram at 800mhz the system would freeze when testing with prime95. This is officially the last time I buy a motherboard from asus, if at leasts they would have tech support like corsair... Don't even think about speaking to someone at Asus! Their forums are total crap, always crashs, slow as hell, no way to register an account, activation emails are not sent, even the web forms to contact tech support doesn't work. *sigh* I just spent 2000$ on this new system and my old one works better. sc4venger
Looks like they just released a new bios for this motherboard; http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?id=20080201205458906&board_id=1&model=P5N-T+Deluxe&page=1&SLanguage=en-us BIOS 0801 (BETA) ASUS P5N-T DELUXE Will test it at lunch time. sc4venger
Hello guys, sorry for the delay.. but I finally got rid of this piece of garbage they call a motherboard, the P5N-T is a failure. I bought the latest 780i motherboard from EVGA which worked perfectly! (Q6600 at 2.4@3.0ghz with mem at 666mhz) BUT for a couple of days now I started to have random lockups so I went back to defaults settings for the cpu and ram and now sometimes the computer would not POST, or loop after POST beep and such. So I have removed one ram stick, it works fine, put the one I just removed back in, problems are back, removed the other stick, still have problems, put the other stick back in (only one) and it works. In brief I have isolated the problem with one memory stick. This stick is giving me errors with memtest. EVGA motherboards have something like an error code onboard display that can display an error code if something wrong is detected, the error I have is "C1" as well as long beeps. I have tried this stick in both A1 and B1 slots with same result. 5-5-5-15 at 2.2v as specified by corsair, same problem with default memory settings / voltage, I guess I should RMA? What do you think RAM GUY? thanks for the help
DerekT
Download memtest from Here and extract the ISO image. Burn the ISO image to an CD-ROM disk. Insert a stick in the first slot closest to the CPU. Run Memtest. Put the same stick in the third slot and retest. Then put the second stick in the first slot and retest. Finally put one in slot 1 and 3 and retest. Research: http://www.google.ca/search?num=100&hl=en&safe=off&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=780i+C1+errors+&spell=1 Results?
