Asus Maximus Extreme compatible with DDR2 memory?

I am getting a new system with an Asus Maximus Extreme mobo/Intel Quad Core Q6600 and was wondering if it's ok to go with DDR2 memory (just cause it's a lot cheaper)...

I tried the memory configurator but it only lists DDR3 mems..

Am considering the (2x1GB) PC6400 DDR2/800 Dual Channel Memory (Corsair XMS2 Xtreme Memory w/ Heat Spreader).

Is there any "significant" performance degradation over DDR2 vs DDR3 that would make the higher cost worthwhile?

Thanks in advance. :)

Sorry, but the Maximus Extreme motherboard is DDR3 only. You cannot use DDR2 memory modules at all on that motherboard: They will not even physically fit the memory slots.

Ok, looks like I'll go with DDR3 then...

What's a good Corsair RAM to use with this mobo?

Dominator is too expensive at over $500...

Im thinking of something in the $300 range that can be overclocked...

TWIN3X2048-1066C7 or TWIN3X2048-1333C9DHX ???

TWIN3X2048-1066C7 2GB Kit (2 x 1GB) 7-7-7-20-2T 240pin DIMM Black

TWIN3X2048-1333C9DHX 2GB Kit (2 x 1GB) 9-9-9-24-2T 240pin DIMM Dominator

Which is better lower latency or higher clock speed?

Thanks for the info! :D
