crizz
Hi, Please help me. I bought a Gigabyte Motherboard a couple of weeks ago and few days ago I got some instances of blue screens from Vista. I did a memtest and got back quite a number of error (>8K). Then I tried to figure out which piece of RAM was faulty. Memtest did not fail with 1 stick of RAM in the slot. I've tested both with no errors till 5 passes. Is this BIOS config issue or fault RAM? Thanks Chris
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 25, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 25, 2008 Please make sure that you have the latest Bios version and then load setup/optimized defaults and set the Dim Voltage to 2.1 volts (+.3 Volts W/Giga-Byte) and then set the timings manually to the tested settings for the specific module you have, or if you have Value Select "BY SPD" and then test the module/'s one at a time with http://www.memtest.org! If you still get errors, please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! However, if you get errors with both modules that would suggest some other problem and I would test them in another system or MB to be sure. In addition, with some MB's (Mostly ASUS) you have to disable legacy USB in the bios when running any memory test.
crizz
Hi Thanks for your reply. I replaced them from the shop where I bought them. Done a test with Window Memory Diagnostic Tool with 2 sticks and went fine with auto settings in mobo. However now I purchased an additional Corsair 2GB (same model) and this Windows Tool detected some errors. Can you be more specific on the BIOS RAM settings please? What should these values be set? CAS Latency Time DRAM RAS# to CAS# Delay DRAM RAS# Precharge Percharge delay (tRAS) ACT to ACT Delay (tRRD) Rank Write to READ Delay Write to Precharge Delay Read to Precharge Delay tRD tRD Phase Adjustment DDR2 OverVoltage Control (as you said will try +0.3) Thanks Chris
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 29, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 29, 2008 With 4 modules the memory frequency should be set to DDR800 and I would load setup defaults and set the memory Voltage to 2.1 Volts and set the NB/MCH Voltage to +.05 Volts, you can get the specific settings from the link in my signature and any setting that is not listed should be set to BIOS Default or AUTO.
