Voyager 16g only showing 2.96g...

Not really sure what the problem is. I don't remember if it was always like this or not. But I just noticed today that I only have 2.96g capacity on this thing. Which is almost sickening seeing how it is supposed to have 16g. I have formatted in every type possible, FAT, FAT32, and NTFS. I have also tried inserting the flash drive into 4 different computers. Some with XP and some with Vista. Maybe there is something I do not know that will enable full capacity. Not sure. I know the immediate response is going to RMA the thing. I've searched all over this forum and I am rather disappointed with Corsair. There is barely any solutions to anyones problem. Every thing is "RMA and we will be happy to send you another one." Which this is nice if you have the time, some of us really don't have the time to keep sending items back to where they came from. Especially someone who travels a lot, (me). So please try to give me some real answers. I am not meaning to offend or flame at all. I just some sort of an attempt to help me instead of copying and pasting the same RMA message over and over again.

You've already tried everything that's within the scope of normal troubleshooting. Multiple PCs, multiple OS'es, multiple file systems. Can't think of anything aside from swapping it out. Could try uninstalling / reinstalling USB ports on the PC, but trying different PCs should have eliminated that step from being needed.

If you format it with fat 16 the partition size will be limited to 2.0 Gig that is a limitation of the file system, but they come default to fat32. When you formatted the drive what did you use to format it?

Please try to format the drive from a command prompt with this syntax:

Format (X:) /FS:FAT32 /U (X=the drive letter assigned to the Flash Voyager)

If you still have problems we can get it or them replaced, please use the RMA request found in TSXpress or follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it!

Also some have had luck getting the full size back with using the work around in this post to solve that.

Thank you. This is what I wanted. I will try those now and see how it works. I used the windows format. Just went into Computer and right clicked and format from there. Tried all types. Even in the formatter, it just says the maximum capability is 2.96g. Thank you for your time. Will get back to you shortly.

If you can and you have the option to set the Flash Drive in your BIOS as a boot able HDD, I would use a Win9X Boot Floppy or CD and use FDISK to delete the partition and recreate it and see what the total size is. should be about 15 Gig.

Please note you have to disconnect your HDD or you might render not active with FDISK. FDISK can only have one active HDD in any system at one time.

And for the record most of the people on this forum get a solution to their problems that I see, if you see something I do not then please point it out to me. I always do my best to help every one with the best solution.

I believe the link you provided worked. I had to dig out the Windows 98 disc, hehe. Never thought I would use it again. Never thought of using Fdisk on it. Appears to have worked. I am waiting 19 years for it to format, lol. I will get back to you on it. But I am pretty sure it worked. Says the correct capacity now at least. It should stay there after the format but who knows, it dropped to 2.96g at one point for no reason before, lol. I will update after this formats. If this works, you should definitely recommend this to everyone with this problem.

Well I do when it applicable, but you would not think there are so many people that never use Win9X or DOS and just refuse to try this. So for most we just replace them. But it is a common trait of flash drives in general weather they are USB or SD type of flash memory. They are about as reliable as a floppy.
