iceboi714
Hey guys. sorry for the long long story but some details make a difference. i just built a comp with this mobo and another PSU(forget if im allowed to put name here) and i had trouble powering on. After powering the mobo, i hit the power switch and nothing happens. 10 minutes later it will turn on out of nowhere. After that, it powers on and off normally. But whenever i flip the switch off the PSU or unplug it. The same problem occurs when everything is turned on. Since the psu was pulled form a working system. i figured faulty mobo...RMA'ed mobo and same problem occurs with new one. So PSU gets kick to the side(figuratively), hearing good reviews on the HX series i buy the HX520. First time powering on...lights and fan spin up for 1 second, then shuts off.....5 seconds later it powers on fine. Again, everything works normally after that....except for 50% of the time maybe more, when i restart/shut down the computer... it will freeze right before it normally tries to POST. I don't wan tto have eot keep the comp on 24/7 to be running smoothly...PLEASE HELP ME! Thanks in advance guys
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 22, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 22, 2008 Try the Paperclip Test. If the PSU stays on every time you try it, then there is most likely a motherboard or possibly a power switch problem. Have you tried bypassing the power button by removing the power switch jumper from the board and shorting the PWR pins with a screwdriver (or any metal object)? iceboi714
Hey Ram guy I'll give it a try when i get home tonight from work.....if it is the mobo..that would suck...cause 2nd rma....unless the problem with the first mobo was the PSU to begin with....well, i'll keep you posted. iceboi714
Question though.... if its the power switch problem....wouldn't that only fix the powering on portion of problems....it wouldn't' fix the restarting/shutting down problem would it? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 22, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 22, 2008 Stranger things have happened: http://www.asktheramguy.com/v3/showthread.php?t=66127 I would disconnect all the jumpers there and manually jump the PWR pins to test. And testing the unit in a known working system would definitely help isolate the problem if you have the option.
iceboi714
Will do, i'll test it on an older system running a P4 Prescott and Asus p4C800E Deluxe...keep ya posted

The HX520 has a break away 4-pin on the 24-pin connector so that it is compatible with 20-pin boards, so no adapter is needed! If both PSUs are working on the P4 system then the issue may not be PSU related. Do you have the latest BIOS for the board? I would recommend removing all unnecessary hardware from the system and then loading setup defaults in the BIOS and see if you still have the same issue. Also, did the neo480 do the same thing on the P5E as the HX520?

I have the latest Bios....gonna try the default settings for the bios....and see if that works then make any necessary changes after. Also found some more ppl with a similar problem but some of them sticked to an older rev than what it came with and the newest...i'll try that afterwards as well
iceboi714
i think my problem with the black screen at the restart was due to my overclock....but the weird thing is i used the same settings for the previous RMA'ed mobo i used....so a little confused....other than that...works fine...weird.....guess i should rma that mobo then...thanks...unless u have nething other finals tests to try out THANKS RAM GUY!!!!:D::D::D:
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 24, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 24, 2008 Different boards will not always work the same at the same settings. Whenever troubleshooting hardware, load defaults in the BIOS to make sure that something like settings are not causing the issues.
