axan
I bought some corsair TWIN2X4096-6400C5DHX ram for my q6600 build on asus blitz mobo, everything was running fine but then my computer rebooted and wouldn't post anymore. Mobo's lcd showed it gets stuck on detecting ram. So I reseated the ram and everything booted up just fine. Another 6-8 hours pass by, computer reboots and gets stuck detecting ram again, so i put some pressure on the chips and it boots again. Now that happened back and forth about 5 times over 3 days. Finally I took out the ram and took a closer look, it looks like the heat spreader prevents the ram from going all the way into the ram sockets. Just to test this i put a different memory kit. Another corsair but 2x1gb this time, without dhx heat spreaders. The comp ran fine for 2 days without reboots. So i decide to take off the heat spreaders from the 2x2gb kit. I pop the heat spreader on 1 side but the "glue" was so strong it ripped the memory chips from pcb, 6 out of the 8 chips stayed glued on the heat spreader. Is there anything you can do to help or am I now the proud owner of a corsair paperweight?
thedon0369
I'm sorry to hear that. You might still want to wait for Ram Guy's opinion but I'm extremely positive you voided your warranty. I just read about replacing factory heatspreaders to put a waterblock on memory and the magazine I read stated that if the dimms come off the pcb then your warranty is void. Sorry for your loss. bigbuck08
That is correct. If you remove the heat sinks the warrant becomes VIOD. You can see what Ram Guy says though.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 21, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 21, 2008 If a heatspreader is obstructing the part from being inserted properly, we would want to get the modules replaced. However, if the heatspreaders have been ripped off of the part there is not much we can do.
