Warp10
After reading a review in one computer magazine, I was amazed with Voyager 4 GB speed (stated around 20 MB/write and 30 MB read) compared with its low price, so I rushed to buy it. After placing it to my USB I was rather disappointed with its write speed - 7,5 MB in average (read speed was ok). First I thought that my piece was malfunctioning but after reading here "March 16, 2007: Flash Voyager and Flash Voyager GT Performance Update" I realized that you decreased Voyager's non-GT write speed significantly. I guess it's working well within specs. To be honest, I am little upset with your attitude, you'd been making these products and suddenly you change their performance rapidly while keep selling it under the same name. Sure, you must have been aware that it had already gained some reputation and that comp. magazines were already full of the product review and that it was going to confuse people. While I'm not accusing you of deliberately fooling the customers, I can't say I find your actions 100% fair.
Lupz
i've got a flash voyager 8gb ...and i TOTALLY agree with you man , i bought it after having read specs and reviews over the internet and i was very pleased with that so i bought ..but the pendrive is DISAPPOINTING ...6-6.9MB/s write speed and 16MB/s read speed ...a lot far from the specs i read ..that were around 20MB/s write and 30MB/s read ....actually this pendrive, and for what you said , all the flash voyager series (no GT), is one of the SLOWEST pendrive out there and it is really too much expensive for its performances . If i knew it i would have spent my money for a cheap one ...that would have been as fast as this. Sorry for corsair guys but this is a really disappointing product, and other brands, with less expensive pendrives, do a lot better. The downgrade choosen by corsair is really SAD and not fair.

Doogie
I put a lot of effort into reviewing the posted performance of the Voyager before purchasing my 8 Gig drive. I use Migo between the office and home, and Read/Write times are critical to my productivity. After reading that the Voyager (not the GT) was capable of 30 MB/s read and 20 MB/s write, I returned my Team Fusion drive (ATTO: 18 MB/s read & 11 MB/s write) and purchased the Voyager. I eagerly awaited it arrival...once I had loaded Migo and started transferring my files, I immediately knew there was a problem! I ran a data transfer test on ATTO and found that the Voyager (which cost me twice as much as the Team Fusion drive) wasn't even performing as well as the drive I had returned! I assumed that I had a bad drive, and while that alone was dissappointing, when I saw this thread and read your March 2007 post, I was really dissappointed! Why on earth would you do such a thing as reduce the performance of your product. Yes, I read about how expensive the SLC has become and that MLC is cheaper and helps you to control the price...but, with all of the previous data that is posted, your customers expect far better performance...and they CAN find it in cheaper drives! You had an excellent reputation for performance and now you've got a reputation for "bait & switch" even if that wasn't your intention! You have no idea of the hoops I've jumped through in the past few days just to get a very mediocre drive...
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 4, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 4, 2008 No that is not the case its not all about price. It is price driven yes but the industry is moving to MLC based controllers because of the cost and limitations of size. Because of the industry wide move this has made the cost of making a SLC based flash drive 2 to 3 times of making a MLC based drive. While I understand your feelings its not a bait and switch the whole flash community is moving that direction and we have to stay competitive. Please contact our customer service and see if there is anything they can do to help you. 888-222-4346 Ext "0"
Doogie
Ram Guy, I have a lot of respect for your even handedness within this forum...however, although it may not have been Corsair's direct intention to lead people to believe the Voyager performs better than the product they can now purchase, that is exactly what has happened. People will plop down more cash for your drive expecting a higher level of performance than they'll actually receive. This is not a good situation and your "intentions" will begin to look very shallow if you don't take some immediate action to correct the situation. I do appreciate that you take action when a customer brings the discrepancy to your attention...but we've come to expect more from Corsair. It is better to under promise and over deliver, then to over promise and under deliver! As soon as you decided to modify the drive in any way that adversly affected performance, you should have also modified the name under which the drive was sold...you certainly did that when it was to your advantage (i.e. Voyager "GT"). Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 5, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 5, 2008 Doogie, While I do understand your frustration and with some of the things you have said I would have to agree with you. And of course I appreciate the fact you have acknowledged the work I have done on a personal level. However, if we could still build any product and keep it the same we would but that is just not realistic. We have to also consider with any thing we make the longevity of that product. IE how many parts do we need to the facilitate the production goals of said product. And how long are they available. And the current SLC technology presents a lot of obstacle's moving forward not only the price to procure the parts needed but the availability in the Volumes we would need. Now there is no way to know for sure what will happen in 6 months but the decision was based on industry predictions. I know it is aggravating when you expect something and then you do not get what you expect. But I would have to say that no where do we publish performance data for our products and this technology is ever changing and sometimes we have to go with the flow. I am sorry that you are not happy and I would suggest contacting our Customer Service and see if there is anything they can do to help you.
