moto377
This is strange - I installed 4GB of Corsair CM2X1024-8500C5D which fills as 4 slots on my motherboard - Win XP under properties displayed 3.25 GB which was fine in light of the 4 GB barrier. Just recently it started showing 2 GB and I'm not sure what has changed. An 8 hour memtest shows no errors and my BIOS shows 4 GB and even msinfo32 command and other WinXP utilities shows 4 GB, but something has changed. The machine seems to be a little slower as if WinXP is only using 2 GB and not the full 3.25 GB that is available. What could have happened? Anything elese I should check? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 18, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 18, 2008 That is normal any application by default will not have access to more than two Gig of memory.
moto377
Up until recently when I right-clicked "My Computer" and selected "Properties" under the "General" tab the amount of memory always showed "3.25 GB." Now, it shows "2.00 GB" memory. Why would it change? I don't think WinXP is seeing the other 1.25 GB that is available, otherwise it would not have changed. Anyway to confirm that or others steps to take? Thanks!
Sonic-NZ
Sounds like you have the same problem as me. If you take out one stick, does it go up to 3.00GB? My issue: http://www.asktheramguy.com/v3/showthread.php?t=66128
moto377
When I take one out it still detects 2.0 GB. I've rotated the memory, but no changes. In WinXP when I run dxdiag, it shows 2 GB, but when I run msinfo32 it shows 4 GB. Something must have changed, and I'm leaning toward a WinXP change since my BIOS, memtest and even msinfo32 are showing 4 GB. My Nvidia system utility in Windows shows 4 sticks of memory. I believe there is a Windows memory checker, do you know what it is? I wonder if Windows checker will recognize it? I'll give that a try. If you think of anything else, or if I do, I'll post again! moto377
I installed 4.00 GB of Corsair CM2X1024-8500C5D which fills all 4 slots on my motherboard. For the past year or so WinXP under properties reported 3.25 GB which was fine in light of the 4 GB barrier. However, recently it started showing 2.00 GB and I'm not sure what has changed. memtest shows 4 GB and no memory errors after 8 hours of testing. My BIOS also shows 4 GB. What could have changed? I don't know what to check or test next.

moto377
No, I have not updated anything. I've been on SP2 for a long time. Is there a Windows mem checker that is available and worth trying?
