ssjaronx4
Hi, I've been having problems with my computer which is running 4gb of TwinX2x2gb 6500C5 G. For the first two days after the build, the computer ran fine. Then it stopped being able to get to windows intermittently. It'll get to the end of the scrolling blue bar with windows logo and just restart. Its also started to load alot slower to windows and loading games. I tried different hard drives, run the diagnostic tool from western digital, restored windows, setting the bios to auto and manually setting the bios, changing sata cables, checking connections, tried each module one at a time, ran mem test for 8 hours, ran prime to test the cpu, swapped the graphics card out, removed the dvd drive, cleared the cmos multiple times and I have still not found the error. The ram passes memtest on standard and unbuffered but it does through up errors when setting it to the Bios - All option. Just says 4096 00000000 fffffffff error all down the page instantly so im not sure wha that means. Anyway, I have bought 2x1gb modules to test to see if it is the ram (Maybe the mobo over volted or damaged them or im just unlucky enough to get 2 dodgy modules). Now, personally I think it is a mobo issue but thought I'd rule out the ram first. Now, I' wondering if anyone has come accross this error as I have heard similar issues with Asus mobos. I also have a question about using 2x2gb and 2x1gb modules of the same corsair ram with same latencys timmings volts etc. Will they work together in dual channel mode and will I experience any issues with speed and compatability? If so, I will return the 2x1gb for 2x2gb modues and have all 4 matched. Fresh XP 32bit build with only graphics and mobo drivers installed. Thanks, Aron
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 18, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 18, 2008 I would not suggest using more than 4 Gig of memory with any 32 Bit O.S. and mixing memory is not a good idea. But yes it will work but you might have to run them at DDR667 with more than two modules installed. Please make sure that you have the latest Bios version and then load setup/optimized defaults and set the Dim Voltage to 2.0 volts (+.2 Volts W/Giga-Byte) and then set the timings manually to the tested settings for the specific module you have, or if you have Value Select "BY SPD" and then test the module/'s one at a time with http://www.memtest.org! If you still get errors, please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! However, if you get errors with both modules that would suggest some other problem and I would test them in another system or MB to be sure. In addition, with some MB's (Mostly ASUS) you have to disable legacy USB in the bios when running any memory test.
ssjaronx4
Hi, I'm just got a copy of Vista 64bit. I only had xp installed for a week to test it until vista arrived. My new modules arrived and even though it did load more often with 2x1gb installed it did freeze a few times so I think I can safely rule out the ram. The computer is recognising the 6 gb, dual channel @ 800mhz so thats good. So, should the voltage the ram is set at be 2v? I thought the modules should run @ 5-5-5-12 T2 @ 1.9V or is the 2v just for testing purposes?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 22, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 22, 2008 If the system is stable then no, but if you have problems yes I would suggest 2.0 Volts.
