ownlogin
Hello, My current configuration is: MB: Abit IC7-G CPU: Intel@2.4Gh RAM: TWINX512-3200LLPT (2x(CMX256A-3200LLPT XMS3205v1.2 (0337014) 2326-T1)) I need 2G more, so planning to buy TWINX2048-3200C2PT. Is it compatible with existing memory ? What will be the configuration ? Thanks.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 17, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 17, 2008 I would suggest you just replace what you have now with the new set of Twinx2048-3200C2 for best performance.
ownlogin
Thanks for your fast answer. Could you provide more details about "replace" concept ? Does Corsair provide replacement schema for this scenario ? Or I just "throuw away" my current 512Mb mem and buy the new one ? What if in 1-2 years I'll like to upgrade my PC from 2Gb to 4Gb ? I'll have to throw away the 2Gb and buy new 4Gb ... Again I'm ready to pay for the 2Gb, I can live with 2Gb instead of 2,5Gb. I'm ready to return to Corsair my current 512mb and buy the 2Gb with a reduction in current price. However I'm not ready to throw it away... There is somebody in the world proposing replacement solutions for old Corsair modules ?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 18, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 18, 2008 I am sorry to say it does not work that way. And I would not suggest mixing memory with most MB's you are welcome to try it but it may not post or run properly and for sure will not provide the best performance. Even you find a match to what you have now you would likely have to run the memory at a lower frequency the days of upgrading is gone sorry to say and that is just the way it has become. And we no longer manufacture DDR1 in our XMS line of modules so getting them now may be hard let alone one or two years from now. The average production life if computer hardware is about 6 months now so its changing at a faster pace than it was a few years ago.
ownlogin
...the world is running faster and faster... Before taking the final decision I have few questions. What are the best timings and voltage for my current configuration ? MB: IC7-G RAM: (TWINX512-3200LLPT (2x(CMX256A-3200LLPT XMS3205v1.2 (0337014) 2326-T1)) What are the chances to have a stable system by mixing my current memory with TWINX2048-3200C2PT ? What would be the safest timmings with both types to make the system working? What about the fastest settings ? Thanks in advance for your help. I'm sorry to say this, but I tried mixing those two kits on an Intel system similar to yours (Intel 875P chipset), and could not get it to run reliably at any memory speed other than DDR266. And even at DDR266, I had to use 2.5-3-3-6 timings and a DIMM voltage of 2.9V just to even remain stable. And note that the Intel Socket 478 platforms are more tolerant of memory mixing than other recent platforms. My previous Socket 939 AMD system refused to even POST with these two kits intermixed due to the different IC chip densities in the two kits. ownlogin
The TWINX2048-3200C2PT is compatible with TWINX512-3200LLPT(XMS3205v1.2) on Abit IC7-G. After 3 hours of MemTest everything looks fine. The timing is: 2-3-3-6 with 2.8V. The point is close, thank you for your help.
