Unable to get MB to POST after installing new Corsair Dominator PC-9136 memory kit

In preparation for my E8500 processor (on order), I installed some Corsair PC-9136 memory today. I ordered this memory because it is based on the Micron D9GMH memory chips, which seem to work better with Intel P35 chipset based motherboards.

However, no matter what I try, I cannot get past the C1 on LED display when starting computer. I tried clearing CMOS, tried memory in both pairs of slots on MB, and made sure to put the new RAM in after returning MB BIOS to factory settings. Nothing seems to work.

I can put my ******* PC-8500 memory (based on Micron D9GKX chips) into either set of slots, and it works just fine (other than being a poor performer with this MB). I really wanted this memory to work, and don't know what else to try.

Any suggestions?

PC BIOS at stock settings/stock speeds. These Corsair modules are rated for 1142 MHz at 2.1V, so I set BIOS to that voltage while using my old memory modules. I then replaced the ******* memory modules with one Corsair PC-9136 module, and checked it in each of the four DIMM slots. Nothing. I tried again with the 2nd module in each of the four slots, and got the same result. Nothing, PC POST is stuck with LED on motherboard dispaying C1.

Unless there is something else I am missing, I have to assume the memory is defective/incompatible with MB. Any final suggestions?

Before the Ramguy posted the reply below, I tried getting the memory to work one more time. I had posted an email a month or so ago when I was first considering this memory asking for recommended settings. The recommendation I got was to set RAM at 5-5-5-12 timing at about 1000 MHz using 2.25 vDIMM.

After putting my old memory back so I could get into BIOS to change memory timing and vDIMM as recommended above, I was in process of reinstalling the Corsair modules when one of the heatsinks came off along with part of a memory chip. I guess that explains why I was having so much trouble:(:

The Ramguy must have been clairvoyant:bigeyes:

Let's get them replaced, please use the On Line RMA Request Form and we will be happy to replace them.

So, I took the RAM back to my local dealer, and they have started the RMA process.

  • 2 weeks later...

I just wanted to post a final message saying I have replacement memory from Corsair, and it is working very well. It worked right out of the box at 5-5-5-12 timing for 1000 MHz at 2.23 vDIMM.

I am still tweaking memory, but currently have it working at 5-5-5-12 timing at 1100 MHz with 2.15 vDIMM. I suspect that I will be able to get very close to rated 1250 MHz once I fine tune things a bit.

Corsair obviously stands behind their products. The total time to resolve memory issue was a week, and the process went very smoothly. I would recommend their products to anyone.
