PeterT
I have two sets of VS2GBKIT400C3 chips installed in an ASUS A8N-SLI motherboard; one was installed at time the system was built, and the other added last year as an upgrade to 4GB of memory under Windows/XP-32. [Yes; I realize 32 bit Windows will never use all 4 GB; this was done as a prelude to moving to 64 bit Vista]. Settings have been set as per advice in this forum; however the system was never fully stable. When I dug into the issue, using either CPU-Z or the Nvidia NTune application show the following: Slot 1 / 3 / 4 --> CAS 2.5 / CAS 3 Slot 2 --> CAS 3 Overriding CAS settings to CAS 3 in the Bios appear to have stabilized the system; have been running for 4 days with no failures. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 15, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 15, 2008 All of the modules will need to be the exact same part number and revision and the with 4 modules you should set the memory frequency at DDR333 and set the timings manually to Cas 2.5-3-3-7 and I would set the memory voltage to 2.75 Volts and use http://www.memtest.org to test the system. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 15, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 15, 2008 If the system is stable then I would leave it alone.
PeterT
So I shouldn't be concerned that the SPD ratings on one of the sticks of memory is only CAS 3; while the other 3 sticks are all CAS 2.5 / 3.0 ? So much for the idea of buying matched memory sticks in VS2GBKIT400C3 packaging!
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 15, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 15, 2008 By setting the timings manually you are basically "turning off" SPD and enabling your manual settings, so you shouldn't have any problems.
