petetx01
I am trying to load 8GB of memory on an Asus P5N-E. I plan to use Fedora 8 as an OS with virtualization and then load Win XP Pro. I am only able to boot the mob with 4 GB of memory. I have loaded 4 sticks of CM2X2048-6400C6. Bios is set to defalt. With this config the mobo won't boot. I changed to 2 sticks, same memory, and the mobo boots and everything appears to be OK. Any suggestions to get 8GB to run. Thanks Pete
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 14, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 14, 2008 We do not offer this part CM2X2048-6400C6 only in Cas 4 or Cas 5. and with 4 modules I would suggest setting the memory frequency at DDR667 and make sure the command Rate is set to 2t and set the NB/MCH Voltage +.05 Volts as well. petetx01
OK, a newbie error. After upgrading the BIOS to the current level, the BIOS recognizes the 8GB of memory. Also using 1 - WD 500GB sata drive. Would like to increase to 2 or 3 drives. Now I am trying to load Fedora 8. System was very unstable. Would start to install and at various spots system would freeze. Restarting would cause the same thing and freeze would not necessarily be in the same place. After removing 2 sticks, leaving 4GB of memory, install went fine. Question is is there a problem trying to run with 8GB of memory on Fedora. Also is there a problem running default settings on my board with 8GB and Fedora
petetx01
Ramguy, thanks for the info. I set those values and the system is stable. I am disappointed I can't run my memory at 800 mhz but I can live with it.
