Maffer
First key system specs: Asus P5W-DH Deluxe Core 2 Duo E6600 CPU @ 9x333MHz I was running my system happily with cheapo XXXXXXXXX valueram DDR2667MHz sticks (4x1GB) sticks but wanted a little more OC headroom (8-9x 400) so I bought 4x1GB of CM2X1024-6400C5DHX sticks. It says on the sticker that they are supposed to boot with 1.8V and version is 2.3. However my system will not even post with these sticks no matter if I install all four sticks or just one stick to first slot. Then I booted the system with one XXXXXXXXX stick and set memory voltage to 2.0V, set mem speed to standard DDR2533 default setting and reinstalled Corsair sticks. No go. Still only black screen. Did CMOS clear - no go, black screen. Your configurator says the sticks should be compatible with this mobo although ASUS does not list 'em in their QVL list. Are my new sticks DOA? Any tips I should try before I throw these out of the window? I sure almost did that after all the hasle I got thru when installing these new sticks due to tricky cable management in a not so big case. :sigh!:
Maffer
Please, don't tell me I have to set certain latency values manually before those new sticks will boot...because this junk mobo won't boot at 400MHz if memory latencies are not set by SPD. :(: Or dooes using 4x 1GB DDR2800 sticks put too much strain on memory controller and system will fail to post? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 11, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 11, 2008 you will need to reset the BIOS with just our modules and then load setup defaults and set the memory so its in sync with your CPU IE DDR667. Maffer
you will need to reset the BIOS with just our modules and then load setup defaults and set the memory so its in sync with your CPU IE DDR667. Already tried that out. Cleared CMOS while I had 1 stick or 4 sticks of Corsairs attached. Both times still no post. I may purchase another mobo soon and try out those corsairs in that one. Generally, are these corsairs able to boot up on a mobo which has "By SPD" BIOS defaults set for memory latency?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 11, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 11, 2008 Yes they are tested on a MB at the rated speed before they leave the factory so they have to post at default settings the first time. I would try it again and make sure the power is turned off or removed and remove the battery and try it again.
Maffer
Yes during CMOS clear I had battery removed as ASUS manual says after setting the jumper to clear-position. And of course power was off. Anyway I'm gonna try those sticks if they post with my brother's system which has Asus P5B Deluxe mobo. If they do not even post with that one either I'm gonna return the sticks. Your configurator says P5B Deluxe is compatible.
Maffer
Ehm, RAM GUY, can you tell me that if P5W is tested with these sticks then what was the BIOS version in those tests and were the tests done with 1, 2 or 4 sticks? My board has BIOS V.1501 which is not the most recent one but so far has worked flawlessly. I'm not fond of upgrading it as I would have to reactivate Vista yet again (done that 4 times via phone during last 6 months so it's getting a little bit irritating so to say...). For the future wouldn't it be wise to include a little bit more information in the configurator (BIOS version, amount of sticks tested for reliable operation, max reliable speed with maximum amount of sticks inserted)? Maffer
Problem solved. 2 sticks out of 4 are totally dead. We tested 'em one by one on that P5B board and one stick from both kits is dead. The working ones boot up the system just fine solo or paired as dual channel. Obviously I couldn't get my P5W to boot as I tested with all 4 attached and with one stick which was dead. Time to return the stuff.:[pouts:
