Bartyfartslast
Hi everybody, I'm first-time-builder and new poster to this very helpful forum. My question may have been kind of covered in other posts, so apologies if I'm asking the same thing again but in a different way. I'm not quite sure if I've got the gist of this right, and I'd hate to fry £800 before I've even got windows onto my new build. My specific queries: I've got an Asus P5K3 Deluxe wifi & an MSI 8600GTS OCED which has a 4-pin molex socket on it and, of course, the above PSU. Rather than get a PCI-X to molex converter for the GPU, can I just use one of the supplied molex leads straight from the HX620 to the card? I've also got a couple of case fans with molex's, presumably I could do the same again (on a different cable, obviously) to power them? At some point in time I hope to change these for fans my mobo can control for itself, but for the moment I'm stuck with 'em on full speed ahead. Is there such a thing as too cool? I could probably resolve most of my worries (and save you guys about 300 more questions) with the following: Assuming you keep equivalent components on separate cables out of the PSU, does this unit automagically deliver whatever power is required to each component, up to it's max load of 620w? Many thanks
EliteKiller
Hi everybody, I'm first-time-builder and new poster to this very helpful forum. Welcome. :hihi: My specific queries: I've got an Asus P5K3 Deluxe wifi & an MSI 8600GTS OCED which has a 4-pin molex socket on it and, of course, the above PSU. Rather than get a PCI-X to molex converter for the GPU, can I just use one of the supplied molex leads straight from the HX620 to the card? Yes. I've also got a couple of case fans with molex's, presumably I could do the same again (on a different cable, obviously) to power them? Yes. At some point in time I hope to change these for fans my mobo can control for itself, but for the moment I'm stuck with 'em on full speed ahead. Is there such a thing as too cool? Nope, as long as there isn't any condensation forming. I could probably resolve most of my worries (and save you guys about 300 more questions) with the following: Assuming you keep equivalent components on separate cables out of the PSU, does this unit automagically deliver whatever power is required to each component, up to it's max load of 620w? All Corsair psu's feature a single 12V rail, so feel free to use any connector on the psu to your device. If you need to use molex power adapters they will work fine as well. Since newer components such as the cpu and video card require power from the 12V rail you have up to 50A (600W) at your disposal. Since the 8600GTS is a low power card (~50W under load) you don't have anything to worry about right now.
Bartyfartslast
Thanks for the reply dude, and woohoo!, them's the kind of answers I like to hear! If nothing else, it means I understood at least some of the posts I spent the morning reading LOL I started assembling parts for this last Sept (starting with the 8600 that wouldn't fit in my old PCs case, gorram it) and I was frit to death at frying this new rig first go but you've put my mind at rest. Thanks for the reply dude. Regards Bart
