bcariveau
I upgraded my Windows Vista 32bit Home Premium laptop and installed 2- 2gb Corsair PC5300 667 chips, which were compatible with my system. After installing the ram, the bios sees all 4gb, then while attempting to boot, I get the Blue Screen of Death. It seems to post a different error each time I try this. Then it reboots, trys to go to repair mode, and I get another BSOD. When I remove one chip and test it, everything tests fine and runs fine. I tried this with both chips. Both chips appear to be good. Both installed at once causes problems. I tried going into msconfig, the boot tab, and setting max memory to 4096, but that value will not save. I also tried turning on PAE, but don't get any response when running: bootcfg /raw "\pae" /A /ID 1 I don't really know what to do, but Toshiba's site says my laptop should take 4gb, and I can't figure this out. Any help would be appreciated.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 10, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 10, 2008 Have you viewed our FAQ? Question 4. Why after installing/upgrading to 4GB, my system will not boot into Windows Vista? (Vista) Answer 4. On all Vista systems when running 3GB or more, you will need to manually install Microsoft patch KB929777. This patch is not included in the Automatic updates. You will need to search for the patch on the Microsoft website. If system still fails to boot into Windows follow these steps: 1. Power on system and press the F8 key simultaneously, until you see an option to get into Safe Mode. 2. Select Safe Mode and press enter. 3. Once in Safe mode go to Start>Run, type in “msconfig” and hit enter 4. Select Boot.ini Tab and click Advanced Options 5. Click/check the box next to /MAXMEM= and enter 4096 as value 6. Hit OK and restart the system.
bcariveau
I did see the FAQ. I downloaded patch KB929777, but when trying to install it Windows says that this patch does not apply to my system and does not allow the install. If I put more that 2gb into my system, it goes to the BSOD and keeps doing so upon any reboots. I cannot get into Safe Mode even. When booting to safe mode with 2gb installed I run msconfig and set the maxmem to 4096, but that value will not save. I have read that certain hardware drivers can cause your system memory max to be 2gb, has anyone seen this?
Wired
Can't find that model on Toshiba's site. Where did you get that laptop?
bcariveau
I bought it at Office Depot, although you can find support docs on this model on the toshiba site. I ended up returning my ram for now, waiting until I find that running 4gb is possible. I see now that toshiba changed their documentation saying now, that the model only supports 2gb. They still try to sell you 2gb modules as an upgrade though. I've heard that this 2gb/ 4gb deal is being kept quiet by toshiba, I'd recommend buying something else if you want to be sure you can get 4gb in it! Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 23, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 23, 2008 I believe it is the OS limitation. I predict it will probably work fine with 3GB.
bcariveau
I just realized I went a little dyslexic on the model I have, it is a U305-7448. Does not work with anything over 2gb. I tried 1 2gb stick and 1 1gb stick, and same problem.
ilovelamp86
i have the same problem exactly. i've tried everything the same as well. and btw, the full model number is u305 s7448
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted April 23, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted April 23, 2008 The Toshiba U305-S7448 Model is based on the Intel GL960 Express Chipset. This chipset does not support 2GB modules. In the future please rely on our memory configurator, its usually quite accurate: http://www.corsair.com/configurator/system_results.aspx?id=67404
bcariveau
It's not so much that it doesn't accept 2gb modules, becuase it does. Toshiba even sells them OEM compatible with the model. Anything over 2gb total system ram is not compatible on this machine. I did use the configurator to check, and quite frankly, I ignored it. Toshiba said it should support 2gb modules, so I put in 2 of them. I understand that it doesn't work, but I can't understand why? Why can I put in a 2gb and work fine, but 4gb total or even 3gb, won't work? If someone can explain that to me, I'd love to know why.
greenvan7
On some versions of the u305 (I can't remember which) the motherboard is older and will not accept more than 2gb of ram. It's because of the intel chipset that is used. So I'm pretty sure that nothing can be done via bios either.
ztynzo
The Toshiba U305-S7448 Model is based on the Intel GL960 Express Chipset. This chipset does not support 2GB modules. In the future please rely on our memory configurator, its usually quite accurate: http://www.corsair.com/configurator/system_results.aspx?id=67404 I too am curious, I did check the memory configurator and it seems to disagree with the information you provided, have things changed (ie, will 4gb work now)? I'm still running the OEM 2x 1gb DD2 667, but if possible would like to upgrade the machine in question to 4gb. http://www.corsair.com/configurator/system_results.aspx?id=621248 Again, system in question is: Toshiba Satellite U305-S7448
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted August 27, 2009 Corsair Employees Share Posted August 27, 2009 That system is listed and the suggested part would be VS4GSDSKIT667D2, so yes it will work with 4 Gig of memory or 2 X 2Gig modules but I would suggest checking for the latest BIOS version as well.
