JFA
I own a Survivor 8Gb (non-GT) What does happen when we try to wipe(securely overwrite) a file? Is there some part of the overwritting data (say, zeroes) sent to other blocks than the original data to be overwritten, while some blocks of the original data to be overwritten being simply de-allocated and lying there, un-wiped in the background ? Just curious about the security implications of wear leveling and of that particular device.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 7, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 7, 2008 Wear leveling is done at the controller not the O.S. level. So if the command was to write all "0's" then all of the blocks that had the data in questions would be cleared. It would be impossible for any one to recover any one part of the data if any that might be left in unused blocks.
