C2C
Hello All, Just ordered system parts from NCIX.com and put em all together. I tested my Memory with MemTest and these were the results: SYSTEM: ======= CPU: Q6600 @ 2.4 (default) Memory: 4GB TWIN2x4096-6400C5 Mobo: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L HD: 120GB WD VIDEO: EVGA Geforce 8800 GTS 512 PS: 750W Cool Master system temps idle: all in the upper 20's low 30's (Celcius) under load: never gets anywhere near 60C TEST 1: ======== Both 2GB Sticks, Channels 1+3 Setup: Nothing Running / 164MB of RAM entered for testing [ what amount should go here with 2gb installed? ] Results: Errors at 1500% Coverage Error found with word pair# xxxx or xxxx (either could be the source) ------------------------------------------------------------------- Single 2GB Stick [3133265] Setup: Nothing Running / 164MB of RAM entered for testing Results: 564.9% Coverage Error found with word pair xxxxxxx or xxxxxxx (either could be the source) *continues to error non stop* ------------------------------------------------------------------- Single 2GB Stick [3133264] Setup: Nothing Running / 164MB of RAM entered for testing Results: 1289.8 Coverage Error found with word pair# 20046715, values 1076393481, 1076393481 do not match ------------------------------------------------------------------- TEST 2: ====== *note i went into Bios and changed the Ram Timings to match the 5-5-5-12 listed on the memory, it was at 5-5-5-18 on Test 1* Single 2GB Stick [3133265] Setup: Nothing Running /64MB of RAM entered for testing Results: 15327.5% Coverage Error found with word pair xxxxxxx or xxxxxxx (either could be the source) *continues to error non stop* ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Im going to burn MemTest86 onto a dvd and boot off that and see what happens. TEST 3 ===== Booted into MemTest86 and ran on both sticks for an hour. One stick errored after 15mins (8 errors) *didnt even get one full pass done* Other stick ran 2:40mins did 6 total passes, with no errors! Seems im getting conflicted info from memtest running in windows and memtest86 from dos. SO: I take it both or One? my sticks are bad in some way? Any info on what to do would be appreciated. Thank You.
C2C
I noticed on the memory sticks it says: CM2X2048-6400C5 5-5-5-12 1.90V ver3.1 800MHz Does this mean the memory is supposed to get 1.9 volts? Cpu-Z is telling me atm its getting 1.8. Im curious as to if this is causing my errors in Memtest86 or not? Or am I reading the sticker on the stick wrong? Thanks C2C
Xtreeme
Yes, the sticker lists the voltage the ram was tested at to get the rated speed/timings it has. That ram should be set to 1.9v if set to lower voltage it can cause those errors in memtest. I "think" all their ddr2 is warranteed up to 2.1volts. Its in the readme on what timings your ram has. (yep I checked for you) http://www.houseofhelp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52351 Testing parameters for TWIN2X/XMS2-6400: Twin2x2048-6400C5DHX Data Sheet Motherboard make and model: Asus M2N32-SLI Premium/Deluxe Each pair is tested and packaged together using the following settings: AI Over Clock Tuner: Manual CPU External Frequency: Manually set to 200MHz DDR2 SDRAM Clock: Manually set to 800MHz PCI Express Freq: Auto PCI Freq: 33.33 DRAM Timing Selectable: Manual SDRAM CAS Latency: 5T SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 5T SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 5T SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 15T SDRAM Write Recovery Time: 5 Write to Precharge Delay: 15 (If it's Listed) Command Rate: 2T Advanced voltage control CPU Vcore offset:_Disabled DDR2 Termination: 0.5x CPU to NB HT:____1.200V NB to SB HT:_____AUTO NB Core/PCI-E:___AUTO SB Core/PCI-E:___AUTO SB Standby core:_+1.500V Output driver control CKE:______AUTO CS/ODT:__1.00X ADD/CMD:_1.00X MEMCLK:__1.00X DDR2 SDRAM Voltage: 1.9 All other settings are motherboard defaults. Maximum DDR2 recommended VDIMM: 2.1 Volts By the way if that is twin set the stick will say CM (whatever) but the set is TWIN2x. The DHX and the regular 6500c5 are same just DHX has heat sinks not spreaders. I have the DHX and its running at 1.95v which is the lowest setting my board allows. C2C
thankyou ill bump the voltage up to 1.9 and see if memtest gives me any errors. I believe my mobos default voltage for memory is 1.8 (Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L)
C2C
bumping the voltage up 0.1 (so DIMM is now 1.9) (CPU-z still reads voltage at 1.8 tho...?) has allowed me to get one full pass done with no errors in memtest86 on memory that errored after 15mins at 1.8V (mobos default mem voltage)\ This is looking promising! Ill let it run for a few hours, then if no errors occur, ill put both 2gig sticks back in @1.9V and run a final time... Edit: Nope. Got through one pass and then errors. (test 6 again) Ill bump it up a total of 0.2 and test again, but if that fails......... Edit 2: Guess ill have to RMA them. Shame ones good and ones not : ( Thank You for the help. Wired
Different Corsair DDR2 modules have different timings / voltage. Not all are 2.1 volts. Check this: http://www.asktheramguy.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52351
Xtreeme
hehe, I think I beat ya too it wired. I posted the link and the section listing his ram settings (which is max 2.1v).
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 7, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 7, 2008 If at 1.9 volts, one module fails and the other passes, then lets get them both replaced. Please use the On Line RMA Request Form and we will be happy to replace them.
