skatamike
My old BeQuiet PSU went up in flames a couple of days ago. I immediately bought a new CMPSU-620HX. But my computer will not post with the new PSU. I am using a Foxconn P9657AA-8EKRS2H board. After pushing the powerbutton once the fans will turn briefly and then it goes dead. If I push the powerbutton repetedly it will start, the DVD, FDD, fans and HDD's begin spinning. No HDD-light, no light in keyboard or mouse (USB). Screen remains blank. My theory is that either the old PSU fried my mobo, or that the Foxconn-mobo is not compatible with the new PSU. I'm finding it very hard to find info on power specifications for mobos. I now have two questions to which I'm desperately looking for answers: Is the Foxconn P9657AA-8EKRS2H board compatible with the CMPSU-620HX? Is the MSI P965 Neo-F V2 motherboard compatible with the CMPSU-620HX? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 4, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 4, 2008 Both of those boards should be compatible with the HX620. I would recommend Trying the Breif PSU Functionality Test and see if the PSU stays on. If it shuts off, then there may be an issue with the PSU, however if the PSU stays on, I would recommend testing it in a different system.
skatamike
I did the brief functionality test, and the fans worked nicely. However, there was a continous clicking-noise coming from the PSU. Is this normal?
EliteKiller
Clicking noises are not good. You can try to loosen the 4 fan screws a bit and/or use a non-conductive object to stop the fan from spinning to see if the noise disappears. If not you may have "dirty" power and some coil whine. Try a UPS w/ AVR to see if it helps.
skatamike
I have tried it both with and without UPS, with no difference. The clicking noise doesn't start right away, but about a second after the load-fan and the PSU-fan starts up. The clicking is fast but not constant (as I assume it would be if it had anything to do with the fan), you can hear that it changes a little in pitch and rythm between every click. Are there any other tests I could do with the PSU?
krishcanag
If your PSU is clicking and it is not a loose plastic protection cover (this happened to me the first HX620 i got, i returned it to shop and they replaced it) then I sure you have a faulty PSU, I don't know the design details but it sounds like relay or coil damage. Go change it from where you bought it. krishan

skatamike
OK, I got it working again! The old motherboard was fried. I bought a new Asus P5B-V, and everything is working perfectly now. It booted up without any problems, and the clicking noise from the PSU is gone.
JoeBob
Yeah, tho in some cases the electronics may survive, flaming PSUs will sometimes take some components with it to the grave. :p I had a a PSU a long time ago which killed my favourite mobo when it decided to keel over and die. Anywhoo, good to hear nothing else kicked the bucket, and your shiny new Corsair is fine. :D:
