silverj
Hello All My VX550W will not keep the system on for more than 10-15 seconds without switching off again. Motherboard is an Asus A7N8X Deluxe rev. 2. Sometimes the system remains awake long to complete POST (successfully) and get into the BIOS, where I can see the 5v line somewhat low, fluctuating between 4.5v and 4.7v. I am confident the rest of the system is okay, as my Seasonic supply from my other machine works perfectly. I am tempted to think I have a bad power supply (which would be a surprise as it is Seasonic underneath) but would be interested in comments on the 5v supply I am getting. (I know the BIOS is not the best place to measure, but I don't have a multimeter.) Is my supply bad? Thanks.
EliteKiller
As you stated, you cannot trust software voltage readings, therefore it's highly probable that your 5V is well within ATX spec. You should be able to purchase a quality DMM for $20 (Sears is a good place in the USA) to test the 3 positive rails. Since you currently have a Seasonic psu, and it powers your pc, it does seem like your VX550 could be faulty. Do you have another pc to test the psu in, or possibly a local pc shop that could do it for you?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 3, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 3, 2008 As EliteKiller mentioned, BIOS and software voltage readings are hardly accurate. I would also recommend testing the PSU in a different machine to be sure the PSU is causing the problem, however if you are unable to do this and would like to try getting the PSU replaced, please use the On Line RMA Request Form and we will be happy to replace it. silverj
Thank you for the replies. I have taken the power supply back to the shop where I bought it andthey confirmed the voltage was low, 4.1 on the 5volt line. As they didn't have another example, they (eventually!) agreed to refund my money. The RMA option seemed to be America, so I didn't use that, being in Europe. Seems like a lot of postage... Thanks once again for the advice.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 8, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 8, 2008 If you are in Europe then its usually easier to go through your reseller, let us know if you have any problems with a replacement!
