electron_oasis
Hi, On a bran new PC build I have had problems with system instability. In the beginning I would get frequent and random crashes and automatic system reboots. After extended periods of time I finally got winXP installed and updated along with all my other drivers... After, all was installed I continued to have random reboots. I ran the machine on one stick of RAM at a time and seem to have found a problem with one stick. Although, I wanted to see if there were some manual RAM BIOS settings I could use to see if all this pair of ram needs to run smooth is some manual adjustments. I will/can provide more information if needed as I am at work right now and away from the PC in question. If I could get a configuration for this RAM and MOBO for starters in troubleshooting my issues that would be great. The system runs stable with just one stick of this RAM installed and with the pair or the other stick installed the problems arise. Will try the suspect RAM on another PC at work and see what I come up with. Thanks,
bigbuck08
You can try setting the RAM to the tested settings. FSB - Memory Clock Mode: Unlinked DDR FSB: 800 tCL:4 tRCD: 4 tRP: 4 tRAS: 12 Advanced Memory Settings: tRRD: Auto tRC: Auto tWR: Auto tREF: Auto Async Latency: Auto CMD: 2T Voltages: Vdimm: 2.1v Test with Memtest for atleast two passes. How To Use Memtest
electron_oasis
Thanks, I got home and installed my 2nd RAM board then configured the bios settings like you said. Although, I did not see anything about CMD: 2T setting. I haven't had a reoccurance of crash/auto reboots yet.. I will need to give it some time to be sure. I have memory speed at 800Mhz. and the FSB is 1333. Now assuming my instability issues are solved. Now to figure out why I cant get my MOBO to see its' onboard audio device..... Ill keep ya posted! Happy NEW YEAR!! <( "<) <( " )> (>" )>
bigbuck08
If you test it with Memtest and it passes, thats a good indication that it is stable. CMD might also be called Command Per Clock.
electron_oasis
Thanks Bigbuck08, Using those settings in my RAM configuration seems to have made my system stable with both sticks of RAM installed. Thank you. I will also run a memtest on them later today.

electron_oasis
I ran the memtest on my PC at home during my lunch break. The results were disheartening, the memtest failed test 1,2,3 then froze up. I did disable all USB support in BIOS before running the test. So I took both sticks of RAM to work and installed them in another PC and performed the test just once(all the time I had) tests 1 through 8 had not one error reported. This is leading me to my first intuition that my motherboard is the problem. I will perform further memtests on my build at home. I will use single stick in each slot and see if maybe the problem is just in one slot as opposed to the whole MB. Regardless, I think I will need to RMA my MB because it also will not see/recognize the onboard sound device. I will keep you guys posted. ~Thank you. electron_oasis
Well first I would like to thank bigbuck08 for the solution to the problem. It turned out that the CMD =2t (aka command per clock) was the single last manual setting that was needed. The first memory test I ran was before I changed the CMD setting. Which explains why at work my RAM passed one pass of the memtest flawlessly and it failed so utterly at home, froze up during third phase of first pass. Later at home, I performed the memtest on single sticks in each DIMM slot several passes each. With random and varying results but all with errors or outright freezes(requiring a hard reset). Finally, I re-installed the pair of RAM and checked the BIOS settings for command per clock I found it and changed it to 2. All seems right with the world... now for just as troublesome but less critical problems like getting onboard sound going. Thanks for the help! Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 3, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 3, 2008 OK Great news, but the driver for the on board audio should be straight forward. You might try a fresh install of the O.S. on a new formatted HDD if you have one.
