1nsomniac
hi, recently ive built myself a new system including the above twinpack memory and motherboard also a quad core 2.4ghz, zotac 512mb 8800gt amp edition, coolermaster igreen 600w psu & coolermaster cosmos rc-1000 case. its all built and working fine and stable on Vista 32bit but i noticed that my memory was holding my system back as it was showing a vista score of only 5.0 and after checking reviews for this memory on ebuyer there was a few notes saying that if it runs in single channel mode it will show a score of 5.0 instead of if its running in dual channel it would show a score of 5.9. after i noticed this i checked in my bios (version 0805) and it will not allow me to use SLI/dual channel memory as it says it is not detected even though they are installed into slots 1 & 3 also the timings are set to automatic and if i change them to the advised timings 4-4-4-12-2T my system will not boot into windows as it either shows the post screen all over the place and freezes it or BSOD as it loads into windows. now i am able to overclock processors and gpu's with no probs and have a fair amount of technical ability but have never really botherd in the past with anything about memory timings and voltages so dont really know what im doin when it comes down to this sort of stuff but could anyone help me and bare this in mind?? is this memory and my motherboard compatible for dual/SLI channel (i thought i had done my research and was sure this would be the best memory for this motherboard) or is my memory faulty? and why does it not work at all at the recommended settings? thanks in advance for your help as i need to know wether to return them back to ebuyer
Xtreeme
Are you sure its not running in Dual Channel mode? Try everest once, when it opens at first click motherboard then click Chipset. Now near top is mem controler and it should say Type Dual 128bit and should say Active: Dual 128bit If not then something is wrong. Under mem timings it lists 20 of the timings you have the mem set to currently. This can be handy info to see if the bios is misreading the spd and setting wrong timings on auto. 1nsomniac
i have attached a screenshot of everest showing that as you said it does say dual and then it shows my timings. i may be getting my wires crossed but i bought this memory as i was advised it was SLI ready memory with EPP and in my bios it shows this as not correct as it says no SLI memory could be found. also it shows my memory timings as 5-5-5-18 and if i change it manually to the recommended settings of 4-4-4-12 my system fails to boot. thanks for your response by the way after a few days of looking through forums and other websites all the comments of people using this memory on this motherboard all seem to be using pretty much the same settings which are :- memory voltage - 2.1 tcl - 4 trcd - 4 trp - 4 tras - 12 cmd - 2 some also use:- trc - 22 twtr - 15 when trying to use the above settings they never boot into windows and always BSOD

Can you list ALL of the information from the stickers on the memory modules and, list all the bios settings you have made for memory, CPU, and voltages. Xtreeme
Im sure someone from corsair will reply soon in the time being Im curious. What does everest say when you click spd. That is timings the ram is programed with. See if there is any diff between the spd reported timings (what should be set) and the chipset timings (what is current timing). Thats what I did, mine was off and it did make a diff. maybe it will help you too.
1nsomniac
Here's a screenshot of everest showing SPD (not really sure what im looking for here) -
Xtreeme
Well the spd is telling us something diff then the sticker. It says its 5-5-5-18 at 400mhz (ddr2 800) and is 4-4-4-13 at 270mhz. If it were me, Id trust the spd programing over the sticker. also spd says other timings are RC-RFC-RRD-WR-WTR-RTP 22-42---3----6----3----3 While chipset is reporting RC-RFC-RRD-WR-WTR-RTP 22-42---3----5----9----
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 2, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 2, 2008 That is correct and if they are XM2S-6400C4DHX the tested setting would need to be set manually to Cas 4-4-4-12 at 2.1 Volts 2t CR/CPC at the TRC set to 24 should be all you have to do. I guess that means it's going back to ebuyer then as those are the timmings ive been trying and it hasnt once managed to fully boot with them! i've even updated my bios again to the new version 0901 which seems to have made my system even more stable and quicker which got my hopes up, but after giving it one more final try it again BSOD before it could boot into windows. before i bought this memory i was under the impression my motherboard was only capable of up to 800mhz mem speeds but i've noticed that alot of people seem to be using 1066mhz, as im going to replace them what do you think would be the best memory for my motherboard?? thanks for ur help anyway
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 3, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 3, 2008 Did you test the modules one at a time to make sure one is not failing? And This is the part I would suggest unless you want to over clock then Twin2x2048-8500C5D would be the next step up.
1nsomniac
that is the one i've been looking at anyway (although the 2x1GB version due to all the bad stories ive been reading about the problems with 4GB and this motherboard) and its only an extra £10 so i might aswell. that is aslong as that will work correctly with my motherboard ** actually after a second look thats not the memory i was looking at i was looking at the DHX version
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 4, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 4, 2008 If you want 4 Gig I would suggest replacing what you have now with one set of Twin2x4096-6400C5DHX and you will not have any issues.

1nsomniac
ok, ive tried to return them to ebuyer as they were well within the 28 day DOA period but there refusing to replace them and have said i need to post them myself to america for testing and then they will be replaced if found to be faulty. surely thats not legal as i made them aware they were not working correctly immediatly after receiveing them, but anyway thats another story. im hoping your policy is not the same so i've filled out the RMA form but im still waiting for a reply on it. getting a little worried now as it's starting to get closer to 28 days. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 22, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 22, 2008 I think they might test them and if they pass on their system they will send them back to you. But we will replace them if needed so don't worry.
