andyriley
Hello, hope someone can help - becoming extremely frustrated !! Building a new set-up P5N-E SLI (BIOS Rev 0703) + Q6600 @2.4GHz + Twin 2xCM2X1024-6400C4 System posts OK, Had problems with crashes when trying to install XP (home edition32bit) but with memory in black slots, usb legacy disabled & setting memory to 4-4-4-12-2 manually as advised improves but not solves the problem. Believe may be a memory fault as on post screen shows memory 2096128K OK installed memory 2097152K is this expected or do I have some memory failures ? have run memtest 86 v1.70 which indicates errors have also tried 2nd set of memory with same results Should I return all memory as faulty or can I remove the errors by BIOS adjustment ? Thanks
decebal
When you`ve done the test did you disable the USB legacy from BIOS?

bigbuck08
How many modules do you have? Please give the exact part number in your post. This, Twin 2xCM2X1024-6400C4, is a combination of two different part numbers.
andyriley
Hi, matched pair of modules i.e 2 x CM2X1024-6400C4 thanks
bigbuck08
The part number for your RAM would then be Twin2x2048-6400C4. Please put the modules in the first and third slots from the CPU and test with BIOS defaults with Memtest. Also, as he said above keep USB Legacy off and test each module individually. bigbuck08
If both modules are failing that would point to a motherboard issue. Do you have any other RAM to test in that motherboard?
andyriley
Hi, Yes have another pair of the same memory type, they show errors in the same way. Note that with the settings that allow it to boot into XP it seems to be stable and run games OK, so far
bigbuck08
If you are getting errors with the other RAM also, there is something wrong with you motherboard. However if it is stable and not causing problems I wouldn go through the hassle of RMA'ing it.
