Extra
Back in May I built a new comp with XMS2 TWIN2X2048-8500C5 memory, Asus P5W DH Deluxe mobo, Q6600, EVGA 8800GTS and Seasonic M12 700W PS. The mobo auto detected the ram to be running at 667mhz, but upon manually inputting the information (to 1067mhz at 2.2 voltage, 5-5-5-15) it seemed to run fine. Fast Forward to more recently, my comp has been getting some hardlocks. I didn't think much of it at first, but about 2 weeks ago I changed my OS to run Vista Ultimate 64 (ran XP Pro previously), and I've been having tons of blue screens (lots of "memory dump/memory could not be read" errors) and hard locks none-stop. Today the system even shut down on its own and wouldn't boot for a while. I changed back my ram settings to "auto" in bios and so far I haven't had any crashes. Further more, I also no longer get the "cracking" sound from my speakers upon start up (previously I thought it was a compatibility issue between the X-Fi and Vista, which a lot of people seem to indicate). Of course the problem is again cpu-z reporting the ram to be 334mhz. So at this point I'm thinking it may be bad ram. Any suggestions? Thanks. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 28, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 28, 2007 Please make sure that you have the latest BIOS for your motherboard and then load optimized defaults and set the Memory Voltage to 2.1 volts and then set the timings to 5-5-5-15 (CAS-tRCD-tRP-tRAS) and then test the modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org! Please allow memtest to run 2-3 passes on each module. If you still get errors, we will be happy to replace them! However, if you get errors with both modules that would suggest some other problem and I would test them in another system or MB to be sure. Extra
Hi Ram Guy and thank you for your suggestions. I've done those instructions and ran the test on each stick for about an hour each (3-4 passes). Only one of the sticks is giving me errors. So I guess I'd need to RMA it? And would I RMA the one with errors or both, since I got them as a set? Thanks!
