Cloctor
I've been trying to figure out which memory type to buy but just can't figure it out. I have a Dell XPS 720. i know i can have up to 4gb of ram but i am unsure which kind of Corsair Dominator i can use, the 800mhz TWIN2X2048-6400C3DF model or the 1056mhz TWIN2X2048-8500C5DF model. Any help is greatly appreciated. Also i used the memory chooser on the main site but i thought i could use the dominator type of ram. Thanks. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 28, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 28, 2007 Neither of those modules will be supported by that system, I would suggest getting the memory from Dell as they would be tested and gaurenteed to wrok with that system. Dell systems all use a proprietary BIOS which only works properly with Dell's own OEM memory, and will not work properly (if at all) with aftermarket memory modules. In addition, the memory on these systems operate at a voltage that is too low for the Dominator series modules to work well. The Dominators require a DIMM voltage setting of 2.1V in order to run reliably -- but Dell (and other OEM systems) run their memory at a permanently fixed 1.75V. Wired
Holy ****, the Dell XPS 720 systems DO have Corsair memory as an option! http://www.dell.com/content/products/features.aspx/cto_xpsdt_720?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs Ram Guy, are they Dell OEM only memory that's built to Dell specs? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 28, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 28, 2007 Ram Guy, are they Dell OEM only memory that's built to Dell specs? Yes and they would have to come from Dell, sorry but the modules are made to their specifications and its best to get them from Dell.
