TWIN2X2048-6400C3 vs. TWIN2X2048-6400C3DF

I have a few questions here concerning these two products.

I did a lot of research to come to the conclusion that DDR2-800 @ CAS3 is as fast as anything on the market (Even DDR3-1800 @ CAS7) and if overclocked to DDR2-1000 @ CAS3, is faster than anything on the market .

First, I just noticed both have the same Micron chips in them, yet the TWIN2X2048-6400C3DF runs at 2.4V and the TWIN2X2048-6400C3 runs at 2.2V.

I just ordered the TWIN2X2048-6400C3DF thinking that they were more overclockable than the TWIN2X2048-6400C3 because of the heat sinks and fans.

I am now reading that it is the opposite. I just ordered the new ASUS P5N-T Deluxe 780i board and would like to attempt to get this ram to run at 3-4-3-9 @ either DDR2-1000 or DDR2-900 speeds.

Why would the TWIN2X2048-6400C3 be able to overclock faster?

Thoughts? :sigh!:

The Dominator modules will overclock better; the ones you ordered. I had this RAM and it runs very fast even at stock. When you get the RAM set the voltage to 2.3v and see if it is stable.

I never try overclocking mine so cant comment on that but I know they run fast. Good choice, especially as they are $200 cheaper than before. Be warned though, Corsair no longer manufacters these so if they die youll need to get something else.

Interesting .. Why would they be spec'd at different voltages though?

Anyway, here is my new build:

ASUS P5N-T Deluxe 780i PCIe2.0 SLI Board (780i is the only PCIe2.0 SLI Board)

Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400C3DF (faster than DDR3-1800 @ CAS7)

Intel Q6600 Quad Core (great for games)

EVGA 8800 GT Superclocked (650/1900MHz) (can always do the EVGA trade-up program to get the SSC)

Western Digital 750GB RE2 (faster than a raptor)

$1250 for bleeding edge (without going crazy on the processor)

If my education and experiance are correct, this is about the best build money can buy for anywhere near this price.

.. I think I have done my homework ;)

I have put together my ASUS P5N-T Deluxe System with the TWIN2X2048-6400C3DF. I cannot get the system to run stable with 3-4-3-9 timings @ ~2.4V. The ASUS utility says I am running the memory at over 2.5V though.

Should I believe the BIOS or the ASUS Probe?

At 4-4-4-12 timings, it runs fine.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

I prefer the XMS to the Dominator. At the time they were the highest bin corsair made and ran a lower default voltage.

Now there are bins ahead of the 6400C3. But having said that I own/have owned 10 sets of 6400C3DF and all have run at the rated timings and many overclock to 850+ CAS 3.
