Wathen
Hi, I have an Asus P5K-E with WiFi and I bought the 2GB kit so I can use 1066MHz setting. When I built this rig, I left the settings on auto and I thought everything was working OK. After I got some of my basic software installed, including the games FEAR Combat and TF2, I had lockups on FEAR Combat. I thought it was video related so I turned down some of the video settings in FEAR Combat and that allowed me to play for almost one hour before the lockups happened again. I did not have this issue with TF2. The next day, I decide to create an image of my C drive using Acronis True Image version 10. The image was created successfully and I ran the validation tool to verify the image. I reported errors. Visiting their forums, they suggested I run Memtest. I received errors at ~45% of the way through with both sticks installed. I then decided to change the auto setting to 800MHz and I repeated the Memtest with no errors. I also created another Acronis image and it was passed validation. Are there any specific settings that I should be using to take advantage of 1066MHz? Again, all my settings are at defaults and I do not overclock.
Wathen
After reading this informative thread: http://www.houseofhelp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=64789 and the explanation from johnsp, I've decided to leave mine set at 800MHz. I spent over an hour reading some of these threads, and the issues people are having running it at 1066MHz. I really don't want to spend that kind of time sending back ram and tinkering with ram settings, even though most of these issues were related to Vista 64. I'm still running XP 32. bigbuck08
Have you tried setting the tested settings for your RAM manually in the BIOS?
Wathen
Hi, No I haven't since I don't know what those settings are. Out of all the systems I've built over the years, I have never tweaked any memory settings. I always leave it at "auto" in the bios. On the Asus forums, people are also complaining that they can't run at 1066.
bigbuck08
Lets see if we can get it to the tested settings. Load BIOS defaults and then change the following settings: DRAM Frequency: DDR2-1067MHz DRAM Timing Control: Manual Cas# Latency: 5 RAS# to CAS# Delay: 5 DRAM Clocks RAS# Precharge: 5 DRAM Clocks RAS# Activate to Precharge: 15 DRAM Clocks Command Per Clock: 2T (Couldnt find the exact name for this in your MB manual) DRAM Voltage: 2.1v Here is the spec sheet for your RAM. bigbuck08
Those settings are exact. How is it running?
Wathen
Runs great using 800MHz setting.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 26, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 26, 2007 Did you set the memory voltage to 2.1 Volts when you had it set to DDR1066? If not I would try that.
Wathen
Did you set the memory voltage to 2.1 Volts when you had it set to DDR1066? If not I would try that. Thanks for that, but I'm just going to leave it at 800MHz. I prefer stability in my system. I'm able to run my games for hours with no issues. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 26, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 26, 2007 These modules would most likely not be stable at 1066MHz at the default voltage, and even running at 800MHz I would recommend setting the memory voltage to 2.1 volts to ensure stability. Wathen
I'll keep that in mind if I have any issues, but so far everything runs great on this board. MemTest reports zero errors running at 800MHz with the default settings. Thanks for the info.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 26, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 26, 2007 As long as its stable you should be fine, but I would set the memory Voltage to 1.9 Volts minimum.
