HELLO I HAVE AN ASUS P5N-E NFORCE 650I MOTHERBOARD IN MY COMP I BOUGHT FROM VELOCITY MICRO AND IT CAME WITH 2 GIG CORSAIR PC5300 667HZ IN IT. I CALLED VELOCITY MICRO AND ASKED IF I COULD UPGRADE MY MEMORY IN SPEED AND AMOUNT AND THEY SUGGESTED/USE 4 GIG CORSAIR XSM2 PC 6400. AFTER SHOPPING AROUND I CAME UP WITH THIS, LISTED BELOW:

Corsair XMS2 2GB Dual Channel Kit (2 x 1GB)

PC2-6400C4DHX DDR2 Memory 800HZ

Dual-Path Heat Xchange (DHX) technology

I CONTACTED VELOCITY MICRO TO MAKE SURE THIS WAS OK AND COMPATIBLE SO THAT I DONT VOID THE WARRANTY, AND THEY STATED IT WOULD WORK FINE AND THAT THEY USE IT AS WELL. I WENT AHEAD AND ORDERED THE LISTED PRODUCT ABOVE, BUT NOW HAVING SECOND THOUGHTS AFTER READING SOME OF THE POSTS AROUND............I DO ALOT OF GAMING, BUT WANT TO BE ABLE TO JUST DROP THIS IN PLUG AND PLAY. I SEE ALOT OF FOLKS OC'N AND ADJUSTING BIOS AND STUFF TO MAKE IT WORK?? I JUST WANT THE ADDED PERFORMANCE W/O MODIFYING ANYTHING. DOES ANYONE HAVE A SIMILAR SETUP AND HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS RAM/MEMORY, ETC??? I LIKE THE HEAT EXCHANGE AND SPREADER AND 800 HZ SPEED OPPOSED FROM THE 667 HZ I HAVE NOW.

THANKS! I KNOW ITS ALOT OF INFO BUT I DONT WANT TO WASTE MY MONEY OR SCREW UP MY NEW COMP. THANKS AGAIN FOR ANY INPUT.:):

First off there is no need for all caps, makes it difficult to read and is kind of annoying.

But to your question. Most likely there will be no problem with just switching them out. You motherboard should automatically detect the new RAM and set the appropiate settings. It is advised to manually set them in the BIOS for optimal performance but you dont have to if you dont want to.

Also, if you ordered 4GB you will probably have to lower the speed to DDR667 anyway as the motherboard cant handle the higher speeds.

Thanks Bigbuck For Your Reply. Sorry For The Caps, I Am Disabled And Only Have "1" Eye Due To A Job Related Accident. I Know About Comp Mannerisms. Caps Is Easier To Read On My Small 17 Inch Monitor....

Well, That Sounds Good. I Hope I Dont Have To Adjust Anything (800/667) Or End Up Getting The Bsd. Thats Why I Contacted Velocity Micro And Asked Them About It. Im Not Very Comp Savvy And Just Want The Added Performance W/o Having To Adjust Any Stock Settings As They Stated Would Void Any Warranty With Them As Well. Some Of These Posts Are Pretty Intimidating For Buyers And Newbs. "corsair" Ram/memory Is Why I Came Here To Ask.

Thanks Again! Any Other Help Or Suggestions Welcome!

NO, IM UPGRADING FROM 4 GIG CORSAIR PC5300 667HZ TO :

4 GIG Corsair XMS2 2GB Dual Channel

PC2-6400C4DHX DDR2 Memory 800HZ

Dual-Path Heat Xchange (DHX) technology

I CONTACTED THE COMPUTER COMPANY AND READ THE ASUS MB BOOK....IT SHOWS PC6400 BEING COMPATIBLE. SO I SENT THE ITEM DESCRIPTION FOR THE PC 6400 TO MY COMPUTER COMPANY, VELOCITY MICRO AND THEY STATED THAT IT WOULD WORK FINE. NOW IM WAITING FOR IT IN THE MAIL. AFTER READING SOME OF THESE POSTS I WAS ASKING FOR ANY SUGGESTIONS OR OPINIONS ON THE UPGRADE......A LITTLE DISCOURAGING AND HAVING SECOND THOUGHTS AS A CONSUMER AND NEWB! I WAS LOOKING FOR A SPEED PERFORMANCE UPGRADE, PLUG/PLAY. THOUGHT I HAD IT?? LOL!
