BoS
I just finished installing Vista x64 on the new computer I built and now I'm playing with OC settings and such. I've been doing a lot of reading here about issues with having 4 DIM slots filled on the Asus M2N32-SLI motherboard. Right now I've got 4GB 2x TWIN2X2048-6400C4DHX installed and my timings are set to 4-4-4-12 2T TRC=24 at 2.025V. My AMD 64 X2 5000+ Black Edition is at 3.1GHz with a 15x multiplier setting at default voltage. So far I haven't had too many issues, but it took a while to find stable settings. My question is this... when I run MemTest+ 1.70 (booting of the CD ISO) it starts up ok with the tests, but I can't tell if it's working properly. I don't seem to be getting any errors, but the "Pass %" line isn't changing either. It cycles through the tests and shows the "Complete %" increasing as it goes through the tests, but the Pass line just never changes. It shows 0 errors, but I'm wondering if it's just not working right. Anyone know if this is normal or should my memtest be working differently? bigbuck08
How long did you let it run? It should take about 2hrs, give or take, for 4GB. Maybe try downloading and burning it again?
BoS
I let it run up through about test 6... It was going for a solid 30-45 minutes. Even after going through all those tests, the "Pass%" still was at 0. I wasn't getting errors, but it's hard to tell if it's actually running properly. I turned off USB Legacy in the BIOS before running it as well, which was suggested. I assume the Pass bar should go up as each test is completed, correct? BoS
OK, so after re-burning MEMTest+ and running it with 4GB in, I was getting 4 errors right at the beginning of test 1. So I started testing each stick individually... no errors. Then I ran 2 sticks in dual channel... no error. Then ran the other 2 in dual... no errors. Running all 4, errors. Also, what I noticed with 3 or 4 sticks of ram installed was that during the tests, it wasn't actually completing them, but starting them and then kind of skipping to the end real quick and then going to the next test, which is probably why the Pass% wasn't increasing. With 1 or 2 sticks installed, the Pass increases like it should. So I was thinking that my issue was the whole, "computer doesn't run well with all 4 slots at DDR800..." so I forced it to DDR667 and then re-ran Memtest with all 4 slots filled. It had errors at the beginning of test 1 again, but this time only 2. Again, I went through and test each stick on it's own with 0 errors and then dual stick tests with no errors. I think the motherboard just doesn't like 4 slots filled. I might have to bite the bullet and just go for the 2x2GB Cas5 ram. If anyone has any other suggestions, memory settings, etc. feel free to say so.

That sounds like it is most likely the problem. You can get the same model of RAM as you have now but in 2x2GB. It is the TWIN2x4096-6400C5DHX. BoS
While I'm asking questions... has anyone been able to run Prime95 on their system? When I start it, it starts the torture test and basically fails right away. Maybe I don't have it set up right, but I can't find any specific documentation or people discussing a similar set up. If you've run this and know how to set up the options etc, can you please post? Thanks. PS. The TWIN2x4096-6400C4DHX doesn't seem to be on Newegg.com and it isn't even listed in the Corsair product list. Although, google brought up some British site that had it, weird. bigbuck08
Woops that was my bad. It should be C5 instead of C4. I edited my post above to reflect the correct part name. Newegg has these as I ordered them a few days ago but they are out of stock at the moment i believe. If Prime95 is failing that could mean a problem with the OC you have. You said you were messing around with OC'ing, i assume your running it OC'ed now?
BoS
I actually set everything back to stock to test Prime95... it failed ASAP. After that I went back and ran memtest on the two sticks I had in. I got a couple errors on the first test like I did with the 4 sticks in. I swapped out that set and put in the other 2GB set. I am now at 4-4-4-12 2T at 2.05V and CPU at 3.2GHz at 1.4V... I ran the complete memtest on this current set of RAM with 0 errors. Prime95 is running right now and currently on Test 2 and still running strong without errors... so, I may actually have a bad stick of DDR that I need to pinpoint. The weird thing is though, I memtested each stick individually earlier today and got no errors. Then I tested two at a time to get dual channel mode working, and still got no errors. Not sure what that was all about... it's all screwy. I'm going to end up ordering the 4GB set of the CAS5 from Newegg once they're back in stock and, not sure what I'm going to do with this stuff. Maybe my parents can use it in my older computer I gave them. All in all, this has been a really rocky start with this new rig... One day it's working smooth the next second it won't start. First the RAM is fine, the next second it's getting errors, completely strange I tell ya.

BoS
Ok, one more question... I know this not likely memory related, but all you tech heads seem to know your computer stuff. I've been trying to stabilize the system using Prime95 to stress it. I've managed to get passed it failing instantly, I think that was a memory issue... Now what I'm getting is Work Thread #1 will fail with a "Sumout Error" while Worker thread #2 will continue stress testing. I've got the CPU at stock voltage with the multiplier up to x15 (default = x13) Could this mean that one of the cores is bad on the CPU or what do you think? Thanks. Edit- nevermind... this time it happened on both Worker theads... Oy...OC'ing is such a pain. Edit2- So, I upped the voltage to 1.4V and lowered the multiplier to x15.5 for a 3.1GHz (default = 2.6GHz). I let Prime95 run for about 30 minutes with no issues. During stress testing, temps were around 48C and idle temps seem to be about 38-40C. I assume as long as it stays under 50C I'm fairly safe. I might reapply my Arctic Silver 5 on the Zalman9700 I've got and buy some better case fans, see if I can push the air around a bit better and keep it cooler in there. Once I finally order the 4GB of memory, I may actually have a stable computer. ::Sigh::
cello
hello i have the same problems but with the TWIN2X20-85005D G. iam running the kit on the new am2+ m3a32-mvp deluxe with an amd x2 5000+ blackedition. my current oc settings are: cpu: cpu multi 15.5x ht 5x chipset 200 mhz ram: vdimm: 2.10 V ddr2-667 @ 388 mhz CPU/8 cl 5 trcd 5 trp 5 tras 18 trc 22 CR 2T when i ran memtest86+ 1.70 iam reading insane dmi data ... it tests the ram @ 444 mhz (ddr888), after test 5 and the beginning of test 6 i will get much errors. why does memtest86+ 1.70 set the clock to 444 mhz/ddr888, while bios settings are different ? when i test with memtest86+ 1.65 i got no errors ...
