XMS3200: Concerned about availability of replacement (and other questions)

Hello

I recently found out that one of my TWINX memory sticks (1 out of 2 gigs of DDR400 XMS TWINX2048-3200) had gone bad, and the place where I bought my computer had agreed to have it replaced under warranty (both sticks were sent to the authorized reseller last tuesday).

Knowing this memory is of DDR1, which is considered an archaic technology nowadays and that it's not available for sale anymore, I'm concerned that it might not be replaced with the same high-performance memory I enjoyed for the last year and a half. Can that happen?

And three more questions while I'm here:

How long does it usually take for the whole process until the replaced memory arrives back to me (I live in Israel)?

Is it safe to use a friend's memory meanwhile, is it possible that my motherboard damaged the bad stick and is going to destroy whatever I put in it?

If I can get my hands on another pair of the same memory I had, will 4 gigs of 2 pairs (eventually, if replacement goes well) work fine on my system and be worth the upgrade?

This is my system (please say if I missed something):

DFI NF4 Lanparty Ultra-D

AMD Athlon X2 4200+

Enermax Noisetaker 600W

ATI Radeon X1900XT

Maxtor 200GB

Seagate 250GB

NEC DVD-RW

Windows XP 32bit

Thanks for your support!

They are end of life but I think they can get a set replaced and if you use 4 modules with that MB they will all have to be exactly matched and then it will not run at full speed. DDR333 would be suggested with that MB.

  • 2 weeks later...

Update: I got the replacements a few days ago, less than 2 weeks after they were RMA'ed.

I'm pleased to say that I got the "platinum edition", which after reading some specs, I realized are even better than what I had to begin with

Just wanted to say that I'm extremely satisfied with your service - well done!
