P5N-E SLI and TWIN2X2048-6400C5DHX issues

Hello everyone,

I could really use some help with this issue. I recently got a new PC with the settings below and I cant keep the system stable for more than 10 minutes without freezing up or giving a BSOD:

ASUS P5N-E SLI

Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400C5DHX

C2DE6850 @ 3.0 Ghz

PNY XLR8 8800 GT

ATX 680W PS

I have been playing around with the memory timings and voltages and nothing seems to work. I tried "Jimmy's Settings" from a previous post and that has increased the stability time from 1 min to 10 min, but nothing else I do seems to help. Is anyone aware of any compatability issues between the TWIN2X2048-6400C5DHX and the P5N-E SLI? Its not listed as being officially compatable in the ASUS MB handbook, but it IS listed on the corsair website as being compatable.

Also this may be the wrong place to ask, but How do i update the MB bios to make sure that I have the latest update since this may affect stability??

Thanks RAMGUY!!!

Update the BIOS first. It is rather easy if you have a flash drive. Just download the latest BIOS file to the drive and go into your BIOS and run EZ Flash. If you dont have a flash drive i believe you can do it with a floppy. I would suggest looking here, How to Upgrade Your BIOS?. You can do it a few ways but the easiest is the EZ Flash utility, which is down on the very bottom.

Once you get that done post back and we can get to testing your RAM.

Done. I updated the BIOS to the most recent version (0801), but I am still experiencing the same problems. I switched all the voltages to and timings to auto and still no luck, then I tried "jimmy's settings" again, nothing, then i set the timings to 5-5-5-18-2T, voltage 2.085, rest auto, and still nothing. The system is stable for 5 mins tops before freezing up. Anyone have any suggestions? Im getting pretty discouraged with this, Id appreciate any advice, Thanks!!!

Please make sure that you have the latest Bios version and then load setup/optimized defaults and set the Dim Voltage to 2.0 volts and then set the timings manually to the tested settings for the specific module you have, and then test the module/'s one at a time with http://www.memtest.org! If you still get errors, please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! However, if you get errors with both modules that would suggest some other problem and I would test them in another system or MB to be sure. In addition, with some MB's (Mostly ASUS) you have to disable legacy USB in the bios when running any memory test.
