Reddog99
I posted previously, crowing about my overclocking success with a Q6600 and a Gigabyte P35-DS3P by following advice in these forums. See "A big thanks & a few questions". I have Photobucket links there. The system has been stable for the last week and a half (running F@H, 24/7) and I got greedy and decided to try adjusting the "System Memory Multiplier" from 2.4 to 2.5 (the only available next step). Ever since then the system boots at 2.4 gHz. Looking at the BIOS shows all the same O/C settings I've been using successfully for over a week (after I backed off the System Memory Multiplier). I've tried changing settings back to stock & then back to overclocked, but the FSB keeps re-setting itself to 266 instead of 333. The BIOS shows "333", but the POST screen shows "266" (as well as various Windows utilities). I even tried Gigabyte's overclocking utility "EasyTune5", but the overclocking button in that program is non-functional. I had saved the overclocked BIOS settings, so it's a simple matter to go back to the old successful settings, but that doesn't help if the system ignores them. I'm befuddled. Can someone suggest what else I may have done to "shut off" overclocking? TIA' Pat
boogieman
Do a Cmos clear. Remove the power cord, push the computer start button to drain residual power and move the jumper on the mobo to clear the BIOS settings. Leave the jumper on for at least a minute. Move it back, reconnect power, boot up and enter BIOS. Load default settings, save and exit. Boot to windows. Reboot , enter BIOS and retry OC. Reddog99
boogieman, thanks for the sensible advice. I've never had that happen before, & was trying to decide if I should panic :D: . I followed your instructions and everything came back acting normally. I'd sure like to know what I did to invoke that "locked-out" condidtion. Fortunately, Gigabyte's ability to store copies of the BIOS allowed me to recall the old O/C settings quickly. I'm running Memtest on a speed of 3.2 gHz right now. Thanks again, Pat

adya
i have the 965 ds4 board and i have the same problem . ive looked into it and its a intel chipset feature which auto resets when u adjust ur fsb. it auto resets wether ur clock is STABLE OR NOT!!! i know this to be a fact. and it will keep auto reseting ur overclock to defualt even if ur overclock is f@h stable memtest stable etc wont make a difference. only solution is to piss ur gigabyte board off and buy a decent one. thats what i have to do.u can have a succesful clock for days then after a week it will auto reset . if u check out ocau or some of the other overclockers sites ull notice no one uses gigabyte boards. well know one who knows how to get a decent overclock anyway. hollovoid7
Hes not wrong, I can run my system for weeks, with no crashes, no problems, but once I shutdown, or reboot, it resets the overclock, (actually it wont shut down when its overclocked) but it always resets the overclock no matter what, and its not the bios losing settings, because all my other settings stay put. ga-p35c-ds3r here, and the last giga-byte board I ever buy after this experience. cant run my ram at rated speed, then the damned OC reset after every reboot, too much nonsence that asus never made me put up with. Reddog99
Sorry to hear of your problems. After fixing my previous problem which started this thread, I've had no more problems. I have my Q6600 overclocked to 3.2 gHz and it retains all it's settings on re-boots. Pat
Xtreeme
adya are you running teh latest bios? Did you clear cmos using the jumper and then when its posts set optimized defaults then reboot, then set the bios up? Id try that. Some boards are picky when it comes to flashing or reseting the bios.
