tc17
In an older previous message I think I said I would never run crossfire, but I think I might in future now, but have a question. I own the Corsair vx550w power supply. And on the Sapphire website for their 3870 card, they list this for its requirements: "# 450Watt or greater power supply with 75 Watt 6-pin PCI Express power connector recommended. # For ATI CrossfireX: 550 watt power supply or greater with two 6-pin connectors. " I was wondering what that 75watts would translate to in amps on the 12v rail? And does anyone have any idea how many amps would they require for crossfire? Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted December 19, 2007 Corsair Employee Share Posted December 19, 2007 The VX550 should work just fine in that configuration. 75w would be about 6.25 amps on the 12v rail.
EliteKiller
Under full load the 3870 can pull no more than 150W since it only has a single 6-pin PCIe connector capable of 75W max, and the PCIe slot itself consumes up to 75W max. It looks like the 3870's TDP is 105W max, so 105x2/12=17.5A. The VX550 has a single 41A 12V rail.
