Tofflan
I bought this system, ASUS P5K motherboard and Corsair TWIN2X 6400 DDR2, 2048MB CL5. The memory is 2x1024MB. The system worked just great. Until I added another couple of memory. I have now 2x Corsair TWIN2X 6400 DDR2, 2048MB CL5. Equals 4GB on 4 slots. My system now often gets blue screen and is dumping memory. Or programs will crash due to memory error. I ran memtest86 and I get errors when I have all 4GB of memory, not with any of the 2GB couple, no matter the slot they are in. Are there any known compability problems with this memory and this motherboard with 4GB of memory? Thanx for your help.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 19, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 19, 2007 Please set the memory frequency at 2.0 Volts at DDR667 and see if the system is more stable.
Tofflan
Thanx, that worked perfectly. The problem now is that my memory runs at 667MHz, which is slower than they should run in. Is there any way to get them up to 800MHz with a stabile system, or do I need to live with it due to compability errors? And an even better question would be if my system would run faster with only 2GB memory but in 800MHz? I'm running Vista and plays WOW, which both needs alot of memory. Thanx for your help. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 10, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 10, 2008 With 4 modules DDR667 would be suggest, but you can try and increase the MCH/NB Voltage to +.05 Volts and see if it's stable with http://www.memtest.org. But if it's not I would set the frequency at DDR667.
Memmo
I got a question. Is it better to buy 2x2048mb then 4x1024mb? Do that work in 800mhz? (i almost got same motherboard) And Tofflan try update your bios to latest version =) (Wow "only" consumes around 58% of 2gb memory in Vista)
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 29, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 29, 2008 2-2.0 Gig modules would be better than 4 modules any day.
