Rellik101
Hello, I have a few questions that I would like to get help with. I literally have a Corsair HX 620w sitting behind me as I am typing this. I already know that it does not fit in the back because the PSU's cable entry and switch do not match up with my case. I will need to modify the back of it if I am to use this power supply. Basically, my question is this. Will this power supply fry my motherboard? My Specs - Dimension 8400 Pentium 4 3.4 Ghz 3 Gig Ram XFX 8800GT (When I install it, also sitting behind me with my power supply) Hard drive - ST3160023AS (160 GB, 7200 RPM, SATA) Optical Drive - PHILIPS DVD+-RW DVD8631 (DVD+R9:2.4x, DVD+RW:16x/4x, DVD-RW:8x/4x, DVD-ROM:16x, CD:40 Sound Card - Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS Basically, I'm not sure what you guys need to know, so I just threw everything down on there. If there are any questions about my specs or anything, please ask, because I am not really that knowledgeable in computer hardware. Thank you for your time. Wired
Highly doubt it's compatible. Dell loves proprietary parts.
Rellik101
Also, since I may have to return this one, does anybody have recommendations for a power supply sufficient enough to hold my computer stable w/ the 8800 GT that is also Dell compatible? I'd like to stay away from the ultra expensive items, if possible. I have a stock 350w Dell power supply also, but, from what I know, it will not be stable. If you want a direct fit then I would recommend a PCP&C Silencer 470. https://shop.pcpower.com/power-supply/silencer-470-dell.html Basically, my question is this. Will this power supply fry my motherboard? No, the Corsair is compatible.
Wired
No, the Corsair is compatible.Ok, what evidence do you have to prove this? Did a quick search last night on Dell's site, didn't find PSU specs, or even a PSU in their website (IIRC they only sell them through their replacement parts sales dept via phone). Granted, it was 2 AM, so I may have missed something.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 19, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 19, 2007 You would need to contact Dell to know for sure. Our PSUs are compliant with ATX 12V 2.0 and newer systems. If your systems power spec is ATX 12V 1.3 the PSU may or may not be compatible.
Rellik101
This is all Dell recommends for an "upgrade" to my system. http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Power/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=F4284&mfgpid=166540&chassisid=8224#Overview I really wanted to avoid calling Dell and dealing with all the holds and people with crazy accents, but I guess I will do that soon. Any other input is appreciated.

If it helps I service pc's for a living, and I've installed after market psu's in the 8400 before. ;): Dell™ Dimension™ 8400 Service Manual http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim8400/SM/techov.htm#wp1052739 The Dimension 8400 uses a standard ATX power supply with a 24-pin main ATX connector and a 4-pin 12V connector for your CPU. Rellik101
So this means it's good to go? Awesome. Thanks for the help. Also, while I'm typing here, I am pretty much upgrading my computer this Christmas. Hence the 8800gt gfx card, 3 gig ram on XP Pro, and that power supply. I also have a 3.4 Ghz pentium 4 processor. Will this processor bottleneck my upgrades or will I be fine for the time being? I'm pretty low on cash now so I'd have to save up for a new processor. Planning to play games such as - Call of Duty 4, Crysis, Bioshock, Company of Heroes.
bigbuck08
If your getting a new PC, buying a P4 is kinda pointless. Especially when you are paying around $400-500 for your GTX. You can get a Core 2 Duo E6600 for around $200-250 I think it is now.

I'll keep that processor in mind though, thanks.
